Christianity could not have evolved and flourished had its founder not been a real figure. Early writers on Buddhism did not also consider Gotama Buddha as historical. Some of those recommendations at the end could be read as somewhat tongue in cheek or at least indicate some degree of sceptisism on the part of the reviewer.
