After scanning a body cast, they discovered a small case he carried (pictured above) that held metal medical tools, coins, and a suspected slate used for preparing remedies. The scans also revealed the box’s little gear‑like lock mechanism, all of which suggest a physician trying to escape with the essentials of his trade as the disaster unfolded. The items have been left inside the case.
