Tattooed Mummy With Jewelry Found In Peru

Recommended Posts

From the San Francisco Chronicle's site (full article here)

The burial was at a site called El Brujo on Peru's north coast near Trujillo.

They said the woman was part of the Moche culture which thrived in the area between A.D. 1 and A.D. 700. The mummy was dated about A.D. 450.

I find it interesting that the tattoos and scarring not only were visible, but that there were so many on her in the first place. I had heard of men undergoing such ritualistic 'skin art', but not so much on women!
