Hey guys

the other day i was thinking about the Praetorian guard and the Varangians of the byzantine emperors but what where the imperial/personal guards of the emperors after the Praetorians were disbanded and before the Varangians in Constantinople? i remember reading it was like a cavalry based guard but i dont recall their name..

The scholae replaced the praetorians in 312 under Constantine. They were formally commanded by the Master of Offices. They were elite troops of mostly Germanic background.

Do I not also recall the Equites Singulares?

IIRC, they were the cavalry contingent of te PG and were in existance during the high empire days.
