Stanwix/Luguvallum

Pertinax

A litle explanation here. My forthcoming blog entry will put this in context but it just shows how luck can lead one to forgotten information.I picked a hotel from in Carlisle from the info on its web site .Ill post details in due course because any visiting Romanophiles should , I suggest , start their Hadrianic excursion from here.

Stanwix was of course the tribal capital of the Rouge Brigantine Queen, Cartiamandua . The hotel is almost central on this map (circa 1845) , the southernmost property on the central block to the right of the field number 70, The diagonal line running NE/SW is the Wall and Axelodunum is the site of the Hadrianic Fort. No remains have been excavated but the topography is perfect for the siting of a fort.

A lot more to come in the blog.
