  1. Me having been there. Go ahead and post another one, I won't have much time in the next two weeks or so. I'll try not to ruin it again
  2. Metapontum? Hard to tell as I'm looking at it on my phone.
  3. I recognized them from my trip last year but didn't have time to look at my pictures. It's a 50/50 chance anyway. I probably won't be able to post a new picture until Sunday. If anyone wants to have a go, be my guest.
  4. Is it Pliny the Elder in Como?
  5. It looks like the restriction applies to all threads in the Humanitas forum. Waiting for Viggen, then.
  6. No, it works fine in the Guess the City thread, just not here.
  7. Maybe one of the mods can change the permissions for this subforum so we can upload pictures directly?
  8. Auris Arrectibus strikes again. It is the statue of Ovid in modern Constan?a.
  9. Congratulations. Yes, it's ancient Pyrassos, today known as Nea Anchialos. One of the more underrated ancient sites in Greece.
  10. Neither Corsica nor Greece. Doesn't seem to be much left.
  11. The person in question was exiled here.
  12. Unlucky, I'm afraid. Get out your atlases. Take the exit off the main highway #1 near little Thebes and head for the nearest coast. You can't miss it, it's just by the side of the road.
  13. We definitely know less than we think, there's a lot of conjecture paraded as fact in popular histories. The case of Trajan's forum also illustrates the dangers of reconstruction, the 'markets' have been so well established as fact it's almost impossible to reverse it. It's not enough to just change the text on a sign when the buildings so obviously look like shops.
  14. No, I don't think it was noted for anything, really. I'll post a suitably cryptic clue over the weekend.
  15. It is a mosque, but not in France. It still stands quite prominently in the old city. If you guessed the place, the identity of the figure would be obvious, yes.
  16. The site is best known for its early Byzantine remains, such as those pictured, but it goes back to at least Homeric times, being mentioned in the Iliad.
