My mentor has actually worked with the feathered specimens in china. They are a true treasure. As for T-rex, he was probably like an elephant, who itself has a soft down of hair on its body. But there was a smaller Rex species (much smaller) that was found with feathers.

I would be interested in the name of this expert as well. It may help me in my current research.

Thank you Aurelia, and my next question is are there any underground networks in the place where the Campus Martius once was?

Anyone know where Julia Caesaris ashes (Caesar's daughter) were placed?
*Btw, I am officially back thanks to Primus Pilus*

I want to know where this 'prophecy' comes from.
The things in the tenth generation shall come to pass. The Earth shall be shaken by a great earthquake that throws many cities into the sea. There shall be war. Fire shall come flashing down from the heavens and many cities burn. Black ashes shall fill the great sky. Then know the Anger of the Gods.Did it come from the Sybilline Books? Or from the later Sybilline Oracles?
Thanks in advance.

I have been wondering about something. Where did all the great Roman generals go? What become of the brave soldiers who held the Empire together? At the end, when Romulus Augustus abdicated, and even before that time, the army consisted of nothing more than barbarian tribes serving in the ranks.
Were the Roman's breeding less, and thus the manpower was depleted? Did the best of that time opt for service in the new church theocracy, rather than seek glory and fame like those before them had done in the pagan meritocracy?
I am interested in the opinions of those on this site.
Thanks for your time

For good or bad, his family line (Claudius, Caligula, Nero, Agrippina the Minor), will always be remembered.
As for mediocrity, I think any man who refuses the purple and honors Augustus' wishes is a great man, at least morally. How many generals plundered and cast Rome into Civil War for this very reason?
As for his battles, they all seem to have gone well. His objectives were met, Arminius defanged, and the lost standards recovered. There were some losses, but that is war. Tiberius ended the Campaigns in Germania, most likely out of jealousy or fear of his adopted son's rising popularity and fame. So he did not leave in defeat.
As for Piso, I think Germanicus was just too fair and eager to follow the rules, for his own good. With men like Piso, you cant reason.
I only wish that later soldiers and men of Rome were so mediocre. Makes one wonder what would have happened had he leaved? Would Rome have been subjected to the horrors of Caligula and Nero?
But thats just my opinion. Fascinating thread by the way.
Inqsoc. Would Germanicus have been in control of Syria, or Piso as Governor? I am not certain. I would love to see what resources each had at their disposal.

I would say Germanicus. The Roman world love him dearly.

Toes was the horses name.
This has been a huge help. Some info I had, others I did not. But let me restate the question in a different manner. Do you know of any cults, sects, prophecies, ceremonies, etc that would be great to use for the existence of a vampire of werewolf? For example, the famous rite of Magna Mater, the taurobolium, could easily be reinterprated to be a vampiric rite of rebirth. Make more sense now? But this is a tremendous help indeed.
*Thanks Lanista. Thats exactly what I am talking about. I posted the above, before I read your contribution*

Greetings all
I have written my first book, and now I have begun to edit and add detail as needed. It is a historical horror novel, centered on the present day and ancient Rome.
What I need is supernatural myths that would relate to werewolves, vampires, etc. Blood cults, religious sects, secret societies, old prophecies, anything that could be worked into a supernatural aspect. Any information is helpful, but things related to Julius Caesar would be extra helpful.
I have alot of information, but I figured I would consult the experts, and see if I missed anything.
thanks guys

This turned out to be a very good thread, and I thank everyone who responded and offered their thoughts. Its why I love this site.

A chemical examination by Yuval Goren, a professor of archaeology at Tel Aviv University who specializes in the verification of ancient artifacts, has been submitted to a peer-review journal.
This is how science works. You test, retest and then submit to a peer review for verification. Given this Golan's infamy, I believe it would have come out had he been involved in this. The stone was bought from a Jordanian antiquities dealer according to the article.
This is just further evidence that the cult of jesus as a unique suffering messiah is false. He is just one of many, and whether early christians borrowed from others, be that Mithras, Dionysus, etc, the facts and evidence show that the debate was only closed by biblical scholars who have an agenda to prove the uniqueness of Christianity. I see this in paleontology all the time, when Christians come to my Museum and claim that dinosaur bones are planted by God to test our faith or that the earth is 6000 yrs old.

The premise that the Messiah died and was resurrected after three days is considered the foundation of the Christian faith, one which differentiates it from Judaism. Through the generations, this belief stood at the center of the debate between Christians and Jews. But now, a mysterious tablet from the time of the second temple has led researchers to believe that this premise of messianic resurrection is not unique to Christianity, but rather existed in Judaism years before Jesus was born.
Seems they did more than borrow a few small things. Paul would not have had to look to far for inspiration.

Caesar's Messiah, a real life Da Vinci Code, presents the dramatic and controversial discovery that the conventional views of Christian origins may be wrong. Author Joseph Atwill makes the case that the Christian Gospels were actually written under the direction of first-century Roman emperors. The purpose of these texts was to establish a peaceful Jewish sect to counterbalance the militaristic Jewish forces that had just been defeated by the Roman Emperor Titus in 70 A.D.
Atwill uncovered the secret key to this story in the writings of Josephus, the famed first-century Roman historian. Reading Josephus's chronicle, The War of the Jews, the author found detail after detail that closely paralleled events recounted in the Gospels.
Atwill skillfully demonstrates that the emperors used the Gospels to spark a new religious movement that would aid them in maintaining power and order. What's more, by including hidden literary clues, they took the story of the Emperor Titus's glorious military victory, as recounted by Josephus, and embedded that story in the Gospels - a sly and satirical way of glorifying the emperors through the ages.
I am not promoting this, but I am interested to know if anyone has read this, or has any thoughts about the premise itself. Just as with the idea that Jesus was Caesar, this is very interesting material to say the least.

I am a paleontology intern, and climatic global changes are common for a living vibrant planet. There are regions of the world that were forests teeming with life during the age of the dinosauria. Now, they are deserts. Did the dinosaurs leave a carbon footprint?
No.
The planet heats, the planet cools. What we need to do is learn how to survive its extremes, not change it. This Global warming movement is very dangerous and rooted in arrogance. People once believed that the earth was the center of all things, and many were persecuted for denying that.
Technically, we are preparing to come out of an ice age, and it does not take a scientist to know what happens next. You warm up.
