  1. Maybe an aspect of your mental exertions lately. Moon, you do not agree with my criticisms of capatalism. What is your view of the monopoly breaking of the turn of the century in American history: the oil, steel and banking mangates?
  2. At some point you will have photographed every last Roman reminant in all Briton. Makes you wonder, maybe UNRV could slowly become the Roman related photograph capital of the www.
  3. That's one thing I have a hard time understanding. Sure Cicero could be acting as the moderate, balancing out both sides, but he seems to have suported Caesar beyond the norm, during times when he was vulnerable. Maybe he felt Caesar would help balance out Pompey and Crassus by having an additional big name in the mix. Perhaps it would have worked too, had Crassus not died.
  4. Eazy-E?! Now that is an honor! So Pan, how's the hangover?
  5. Just a little something: "Yet what would history say of me in six hundred years time? For that is a thing which I fear more than the idle chatter of men alive today." -Cicero April 59 BC, ad Att. 2.5
  6. I suppose it seems the one unifying shame that all cultures share is that of loss in battle. Makes sense, seeing as how that sort of loss can cause the culture to be extinct.
  7. Ah I remember this thread! Does anyone know the exact dimentions of one link of this chain? I'm trying to get a mental image of what it must have been like.
  8. The gallery is our entire collection of photos. Or you could say it is one of the two main photo subforums. An album is the equivalent of a 'thread' in one of these subforums. My Getty collection is an album.
  9. Hang in there buddy! Do your duty to UNRV and the Imperators will promote you. There is nothing they like more than hardworking contributers.
  10. Ahh. My guess is you need to be at least an equestrian to start an album then. I suggest you PM one of the admins and maybe they can give you special access. As a patrician even I can only have one photo album at a time, so choose your theme carefully.
  11. 1. Go to gallery section. 2. Choose which gallery is best for your photos. Either Roman history related or not basically. 3. Hit 'New Album' 4. Give a title and description for your collection and approve of the new album. 5. Hit the scroll down menu to the right called 'select an operation' and click on 'upload image.' 6. Determine it's title and description. 7. Towards the bottom upload an image from your computer in the 'image to upload' section. Click the browse button and you can search your harddrive for the pic. 8. Click the 'Post image' button. 9. Repeat steps 5-7 until you've added all your images.
  12. Dura Europus. It is representitive to me of the best and most expanded days of the empire, a city able to thrive on the fringes of empire and desert.
  13. I'd say that all non-English speakers are welcome here to participate in all things for sure, never got another impression. What is frowned upon is rambling nonsensical stream-of-conscience material.
  14. After talking with Pantagathus and Pertinax about herms and their members, it got me to thinking about the concept of shame in the Greek world. Our modern version is heavily influenced by Christianity which has imprinted on our minds to be pointlessly and damagingly ashamed of ourselves on a wide variety of topics. In the east there is a heavy shame connotation if one fails the family. Even the Romans had some shame upon failure of duty. But what of the Greeks? I am having a hard time thinking of instances of shame represented in their ancient society.
  15. Very interesting! I wonder if there is a similar science behind the presence of bacteria and their byproducts in relation to archaeological investigation?
  16. What format was the image taken in (tif perhaps)and quality of pixellation? Pertinax, I know what Favonius is talking about, I have that issue. If a photo is 'rated' say with 5 stars, those stars show up as one x box as if an image didn't load right. Exactly. I tested the rating function on that first picture to see what it was about, and did not test the rest. From my view only the first picture has that issue whereas the rest have the 'rate image' box.
  17. On the topic of gallery maintenance: the first photo for the Getty photo set, there is some image that is not loading for the 'rating' of the photo. What does that mean?
  18. It's hard to get into the mindset of something like that not being rediculous but rather pius. I mean even from an astetic point of view, its odd. Different times.
  19. LOL, interesting. Where on that herm would the....unit, be placed?
  20. Well folks I have returned from my visit to the Getty and uploaded all the pictures I took of this remarkable place. I was absolutly swept off my feet by the beauty of the grounds and the scope of the collection. I've never in my life seen so many Roman and Greek artifacts in one location. I strongly reccomend anyone to visit the place. Anyway you can view my picture gallery here. Many apologies for those pictures which are a little hazy; naturally flash photography is not allowed and some of the rooms were dark. Hope you enjoy!
  21. That sucks, he was a good guy. Man, through his chest?
