  1. When Rome became a big empire...few of its soliders were accually ITALIAN born. Only the officers were Italian or Roman technically the rest were Thracians, Gauls, Spanish,Greeks,Britons, Illyrcriums, Bebers, Egpytians the list goes on and on. But in the early days of the Republic most people of the Legions were Italian the Romans most likely considered the Celts or the people that latter became a huge part of the army as "Barbarians not fit to serve Rome." Sorry about spelling, Zeke
  2. Yes I have heard the situation in the present day country of Italy is quite odd. In the North it is heavlily industirlized and looks like a western European advanced country. While south of Rome it is like Albania or something with huge farms that are really poor. Zeke
  3. Intresting discussion we got going here.... I never knew the Celts built roads either Zeke
  4. Tarjan is the best.....being the first non-Italian born citizen of the empire to become emperor for expanding the empire to its greatest boundries and for bringing econmoic prosperity throughout the empire. Zeke
  5. You think if they had less to carry they would march 50 miles? Zeke
  6. Most of the time....Mythology is just plain (myth)ology! The centaures and the sun being driven by a chariot and all the time line stuff is all just a funny story inveted to make people laugh and explain stuff way back then. I agnolage that almost all Greek and Roman Mythology is entirelly false...all these mytholgies are just stories, false made up stories by illterate humans beings, exacly like the bible which is a book of Jewish mythology almost all of the tales are compleate fiction thought up by writers to explain things of the Jewish and Christian faith. I mean the tower of Babel, Noah's ark, and all the other wild outlanish tales includding the false tales they told of the worship of Baal they sound highly unbelievable just like Baccus turning pirates into dolphins or Demeter's daughter being kidnapped by Hades. All I see mythology as is the unqiue indvidual stories that cultures create to amuse people and to explain things that happen in the past with the faith. When in comes to religion it's the worshiping that counts not the tales of the divine being that could be compleatly false the belief is the true essence of any religion what so ever! Sorry about spelling, Zeke
  7. Ursus has a point, about Capitlism being a sort of religion. But to point out the reason George W.Bush won the elected was because of fantical Christians who believed in morals and values so Christianity in America is not dead yet just not as strong as it once was. Zeke
  8. I wish I could get in on a reencament that would be exciting! Zeke
  9. When the Romans marched....how many miles do you estimate a Legionare could do in one day? And is it true that at the end everyone Roman would help build the camp or was their a company of enginners that did that? I find it quite intresting that Romans could do this after marching all day in the hot sun or the blinding rain. Sorry about spelling, Zeke
  10. How much would you estimate is Roman Money worth to ONE US dollar today? I like the thought of using coins the coins accually have value. Zeke
  11. How about the battle of Teutonburg forest..your forgetting what a great disaster that was, it stoped the advance of the Romans in the region for the rest of Imperial History. I see as that was one of the most desesive battles in history and the commander also named Varus I think, was an incompitent governor from Syria. Sorry about spelling, Zeke
  12. As I said....Indo-European people, I admit my Pagan mythology is HIGHLY un believable just like the bible. But the Aeneid is a great story...written by Virigl to expand Roman Patorism. My major theory would have to be this. Maybe about 2,000 BC the orginal Romans cmaes down from the area of the PO river valley and settled on the Tiber bringing vast herds of sheep with them and begining to grow grain. Supposadly the city was techinacally founded in 753 B.C but that could be compleate Myth as well Romulus and Remus might not have existed at all. And "Aeneas" could be just an Indo-European farmer that Virgil made big to make the legend seem more real. And oviosuly the Greek infuluence is from the cities to the south of Roma. I am not a religious fanatic and I believe more in our science then anything else but I won't rule the Aeneid out of mind being ignorant of that is preety bad to. Mix of science and religion is always good. Zeke
  13. "Thats compleate myth" thats an opinion, Though I agree more with the theory of the Romans being an Indo-European tribe of shepards.
  14. Sticking to my religious ways but also to some historical fact, the Romans could either be of two people....orignially an Indo-European shepard tribe that settled on the Tiber River or they were originally Trojans/Phonecians or Greek that were led by the Trojan Hero Aneas fallowing the aftermath of the war spoken by Homer in the Illiad; that settled on the Tiber. Sorry about spelling, Zeke
  15. So sorry to say...did the Roman enjoy sex or what?? lol, if they wern't in it for love then they probably had some sort of sexual desires . Zeke
  16. Love affairs in ancient Rome....who do you think is the most romantic couple at any point in Roman History? Marcus Antonious and Cleopatra are my best bet! I find their love affair sensual and romantic, I don't know why I just had to bring it up. I know families arranged marriages in anicnet Rome but what if they didn't how would a man prepose to a woman? What do you think was the romantic relationship of the day. Sorry about spelling, Zeke
  17. Bascially what I know about him is that he was the last true empeor of a united Roman Empire. And that he outlawed Paganism in 394 A.D calling it a "Barbaric Religion." He doust the fire of Vestal and the Altar of Victory was removed from the Senate. Theodeious is also aclaimed for bringing peace for about 5 years after driving back the Goths for the last time. I personally don't like him...him and Constatine the Great are on my hate list. But many other people admire him for his glorious controbutions to a dieing empire. Sorry about spelling Zeke
  18. I agree....Greco phislosphy isn't the most exciting thing in the world. Roman outlook on life is much more cooler...and my Celtic Ansestory draws me to Celtic Culture in general. Hence "Zeke the Celt." Celtic Soceity is really exciting as well...chopping off heads, raiding Cattle getting so drunk you can't piss straight not being afraid of anything... screaming while naked and running up and down like a lunatic..you get the picture lol. Though when I mean Celtic Culture I am thinking about the clothing I wear and the family values I will incoporate when I do start a family. I enjoy the Celtic Warrior spirit and the honor of trust. (Though the Celts broke their treaties with Romans alot) Although when in comes to Celtic Spirtuality....I find it not as structured as Roman Paganism the Gods are confusing to remember. I also think Celtic Arcitecture isn't the most advances in the world compared to the glory of a Roman Villa. Zeke
  19. Yeah I would to....I am going to Ireland and want to live that truly "Celtic Life" but I want to keep worshiping my Roman Gods and perserving Roman Culture. Do you think it is right to have a blend of Celtic/Romo Cutlure? Or do you think its odd in a place like Ireland? Honestly Zeke
  20. Well yeah....but just to see the charge and not get hurt myself would be amazing! Zeke
  21. I remember when I usta to be a really big Communist and I was on this forum called "Che-Lives" and well the moderators are the most sour people I have ever met, their mean, ill spiritied, highly opinionated, and ignorant. Now the Mods at UNRV.... primuspilus is so cool I mean he is really nice and has a nice sense of humor. Viggen is a kind intelligant person who is neutral on everything and Moonscape is a good debater without starting to attack people. Three cheers for Primuspilus, Viggen and Moonscape for being wonderful "3 good Emperors!!!!!!" Or should I say the Triumvirate of greatness. I thank you for devoting your valuable time to these forums to help people understand the Roman world and its wonders. Whos with me??? Zeke
  22. Ursus has a point there. Roman Paganism is not all about love and trust (though those are some of my morals) because though I don't know about other Roman Pagans but I relize that people arn't perfect and they can't ever be...Pandora's curse will always be there in all though horrible vices like jelousy, betrayel, misturst, backstabbbing etc. Thats why in my opionion many Christians in their quest to become "sinless" are being hyprotical, because I know many Christians who are backstabbing gossipers who only put a good show on on the outside but on inside they are horrible evil people who don't give a ***** about people. I know many Pagans like this as well so its not just Christians...People will always have vices and evil thoughts and desires even if it is small it will be there. Ironically enough my grandfather was an Athiest and many religious groups persacuet Athiests because they have no "Morals" when in reliaty my grandfather was the most respected man in the community beloeved by his neighboors as an honest, decent, humble and kind man. And just because he wasn't a Christian or a Pagan or a Buddist or whatever didn't mean that he was going to die young or be poor for the rest of his life. He made it to the ripe old age of 90 and accumalated ALOT of money through his chicken farm. As with Ursus there are people in the world that I shall never like because there just evil people in my opinion. When Christians try to love everyone is useless because they are just going to go home and talk bad about them behind their back. And also I think that not all religions are the same.....because they don't have all the same messages...Christians teach to litterally worship a guy who live 2,005 years ago and during Roman Pagan times the you worshiped many dead guys in the forms of your ansestors and dead emperors. In Buddism you try to listen to a man who reached ultimate peace with himself and with Judisim your're still waiting for the ultimate comming of the guy that you will worship after he does die after his comming. Some religions you worship one god some you worship many, some you worship a thought some you worship something like the "divine energy source of life." There are all different and thats what makes them exciting and unique!
  23. Indeed if my religion ever comes back again....I will probably be one of its front runners and since I am fiding myself I can bend the religion seeing as how their is evidecne of practice but not that much, so I can anaylize it and shape it if I want....there is no docturine saying I have to belief a certain way.
