Roman refrigerator found on Danube frontier

Rather "cool" this 😉: a #Roman 'refrigerator', or cold storage box, has been discovered in the ruins of Novae fortress on the Danube frontier in what was the Diocese of Thracia!

Reading the article for the first time, I was skeptical about the function of the box as an “ancient refrigerator.” The contents of the box, however, made the belief more credible:

Within the refrigerator they found pieces of ceramic vessels along with several baked bone fragments, presumably the remnants of cooked food. They also found a bowl containing charcoal, which they believe would have been used to repel insects.”

The finding of this bottle, however, made the description a certainty: LoL

Yes I initially suspected ill-informed click-bait, but it sounds pretty credible. I had actually just been writing about a cold storage pit in a 4th c Roman farm, and wondered if this was common. Did a quick Google and hit upon this recent find - perfect!
