The Olympic flame is ignited several weeks before the opening ceremony at the main site of the the ancient Olympics in Olympia, Greece by a group of women representing the Vestal Virgins at a celebration at the Temple of Hera. The Olympic torch is then transported to the site of the games. Below is a video of the actor Jackie Chan participated in the Olympic torch relay through Pompeii.
