G-Manicus 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 TiVo'd this last week off of the National Geographic Channel and found it truly fascinating. Dr. Robert Ballard, the oceanographer who helped rediscover the Titanic and the Bismark, lead a team to the bottom of the Mediterranean in the late 90's to search for sunken Roman and Carthaginian vessels. He was able to secure the use of a US Navy nuclear submarine that they outfitted with cameras and an arm for excavation. They used the sub's sonar to locate the remains of a half dozen or so ships and were able to salvage quite a bit of cargo. The video was amazing. If you have a chance to see it, I wholeheartedly recommend it.
