My hometown in southern austria sucks in any sport except in hockey, thats the only thing we are good at, the only thing that attract crowds... (6 times austrian champion) and we have of course an arch enemy the capital Klagenfurt which is just 40 km to the east... yesterday for the 295th time we played against each other, thanks to the NHL lock out even with three players from the NHL Sam Gagner (Edmonton Oilers) and Tyler Myers (Buffalo Sabres) for the Reds and Michael Grabner (NY Islanders) for my team.

Michael Grabner is a native Villach guy, so it was a question of honor for him to play here. (btw. just a few miles to the south comes a Stanley Cup winner Anze Kopitar [slovenia] from the LA Kings)

...in any case, 1:3 and 2:4 behind and we turned the game in the last 10 minutes to a 5:4 win!

fantastic crowd, full house and very very loud!

    Blue and White forever!

here a highlight video of the game

    ...is there one?
...has anyone figured it already out?

In the meantime i go with Peter Ustinov, who once said...
The point of living and of being an optimist, is to be foolish enough to believe the best is yet to come.

I don`t know what is (is there?) wrong with me, no matter how good a new artist is, or how intriguing a new pop/rap/rock/soul/alternative/whatever song is, i quickly loose interest and get back to my good old 80`s songs...

...am i getting too old for all those new "superstars" that i dont seem to catch on? Sure, some of "my" hero`s" are still around, but there are not many that made it all the way from the eighties into todays charts, so how will todays kids feel in twenty years?
Do older folks then me cherish "their" time (if there is such a thing) like the 70s or 60s, is that just the flow of nature that your teens are the most influential period and you cant seem to move on?

...anyway, i am feeling a little nostalgic today and Vienna from Ultravox is just the right medicine for the moment!

(In case you wondered; i am checking my weight every morning just after i get up, before i have eaten or before i had something to drink.) I lost again a pleasing amount of weight, since my last entry (0.4 kilograms = 0.881849049 pounds). Although i had some chocolate attackes i managed to continue to loose weight, mostly because of a technique called Intermittent fasting, i skipped dinner twice the last few days and it really gives you a boost in weight loss. I thought it will be difficult but it wasnt at all, whenever i felt hungry i drank water or started to exercise. This is a really great tool to have more control. It looks like i might break the 110 kilograms = 242.508488 pounds barrier before June ends!

Si vales bene est ego valeo...

I had it all, fire in the house, crappy work-situation (and i mean crap when i say crap), one surgery followed by another surgery and voila followed by another one. To sum 2007 so far up ---> Hell

I have now hopefully all surgeries done for this year (vene surgery for anyone who cares) and allowed to sit 15 minutes and then have to rest for an hour and so on...

in anycase good to be finally back...

Finally the Rugby World Cup has started, the most entertaining team sport (in my eyes at least) kicked of in France and the host already got beaten up by Argentina, a not so big surprise if you look at their last 5 encounters...

So, everyone is talking about New Zealand and how they will be the next world champion, i tell you know it is not going to be easy, i got a hunch they have to take on France in the quarter final and will get kicked out of the tournament, leaving the door open for South Africa to reclaim their 1995 title

...ok, just a day dream, but if you want to see one very exiting amazing fast winger in action,
for Bryan Habana, a rocket on the rugby field...
    Go Springbocks...

Around 2011 we saw a massive influx of new members, they had wonderful names like xxxcialisforyou, or pokersupergames or even less imaginative like xfgUlkzzio...

They did not post much and the few that did got quickly deleted by the moderators. On the surface they didnt bother anyone. Oh boy were we wrong. Those were little bastards that try to exploit known bugs in the software to get a foothole in the server and that all for one thing only. Use the site to send emails. If anyone remembers the many problems with the site startet around 2011. On top of that my host told me that my site has unusual high traffic (which we didnt) and shut down the site a couple of times without notice. It got so bad at one stage that the site was for months offline. No one could help. The hosting company insisted that it was my fault, but didnt tell us what exactly is the problem.

You must know our host was a very big company, with apparently very smart people but unfortunately not very caring ones, so they basically didnt give a f++++ what happend to our site. By accident i stumpled upon a little canadian company and they managed to quickly identify the problem and fix it.

Internal email and notification should finally work again as usual.

Lesson learned, new members that sign up and dont post within a month are deleted, sorry to lurkers, the spammers spoiled it for you...

Long weekend getaway + 3 Airports + eleven times controlled/checked as if i am on some sort of watch list or member of an terrorist organisation = considering buying my own plane and screw that whole crappy procedure

To give you an example; on my way home from Airport C to Airport B, i get controlled first at arrival (which means belt off, shoes off, all pockets emptying) in a queue of like 2 billion people (or at least it feels that way), finally its my turn and stop, somewhere it is still beeping on my body, so the thorough examination starts, back and forth about 4 times, it`s still beeping somehwere on my body but they couldnt find anything and finally give up. I move about 3 steps further to my hand luggage and i was told that i have some sort of weapon in side the bag and i must open it in front of them, so i open my hand luggage and we are searching for about 20 minutes through my bag to no avail, needless to say the queue behind me was getting reeeeaaaally long, and my patience was no longer existing.

Eventually after putting that hand luggage 5!!!! times through that xray, they gave up (i would like to add that the whole time i was standing there without belt and shoes) I really feel that terrorist accomplished everything the wanted, they screwed up the lifes of millions of ordinary people....

p.s. i rather not mention any of those involved airports, because by now i start to believe they are out there to get me....

...was about time and last chance, the old forum software was about to expire for good (meaning no more security updates).
With this 4.0 version we should be good for another 4 to 5 years and than who knows....
I am also strongly consider to change the whole site to a CMS (custom management system), with about 2.000 hand coded pages no small task, but whatever keeps one busy...

Well this is not going to make headline news around the world, but it makes me angry. In a few words; A diplomat wants his shoes polished in a noble hotel in Vienna. The bootblack tells him that he is now on a break and he has to wait a bit. The diplomat gets upset starts arguing and eventuelly fires a shot at the bootblack...

Now nothing is going to happen to the diplomat, "Diplomatic immunity ", All we can do is tell him to leave the country... Do you feel this is right?

...i am way behind my target but at least i am still loosing weight, for some reason my metabolism has slowed down tremendously and no matter how little i eat or how much i exercise i dont loose weight in a rate that i would expect....

in the meantime some food for thoughts, excellent video about why the NON FAT craze that started in the seventies made us all fatter...

I am going next weekend to vienna!

One of the reasons i really love to go to vienna is that my brother and my sister lives there, and its just 200 miles away from here, but its a different world compared to my little hometown. According to the Mecer Quality of Living global city rankings 2009 it took first spot worldwide, and I am not arguing with that!

...and for everyone that hasn`t been there, here is a little video of the vienna inner city

I was wondering about one thing for a long time, is it just me or does it feel that italians of today dont really care about their "roman" heritage? I live close to the italian border and have so lots of contact with them; Every time i mention our site and that the site is about "their" glory past, they sort of shrug shoulder, maybe a "nice" and move on, no interest whatsoever.

Did i just have bad luck, or is it just the way it is, Italians dont care?

    cheers

...so i didnt reach my goal of getting below 112 kilograms = 246.917734 pounds by yesterday but i was close, I guess that icecream yesterday with fresh strawberries made the difference, but it was worth it...
Our local farmers came up with the idea to grow stuff and let consumers pick it for day to day use, it started about 15 years ago, not sure if that is also available in other countries, here its a big hit...

Right now its strawberry season and you cant get bigger, sweeter fresher and cheaper strawberries thant this; you go to the fenced field, pluck your strawberries and on the way out you pay for it, while you are in the fenced field you can eat as many strawberries as you like and all for free, so great for families with kids...

Later in the year the same concept will be available around my town with rasberries, blueberries and with blackberries,

I think we should reward our bloggers, how about an Amazon Kindle or a NOOk?

Come up with how the competition should work, who should get the first prize, the one with the most blog entries not going to happen, (sorry caldrail, than there wouldnt be a contest to begin with, you are just too productive )

    ...so any ideas ???

This saturday i went to the first open air hockey game in austria (since well the old days), it took place in the soccer stadium of Klagenfurt in front of a capacity crowd of 30.500.
It was magic, i never expected it to be so good. The atmosphere, the view, the game (my team won).

You know, in my province hockey rulez, not soccer but hockey, always has been, so it was no surprise that despite the currently two worst teams in our league playing, tickets were sold out within 4 hours, and according to officials 90.000 requests for tickets came in....

I upload some more photos tonight...

About two weeks ago, Bruce Springsteen had a concert in vienna, my sister and my brother had the privilege to get tickets and with 50.000 other fans, they could be part of something that never happend before in Europe...

...he played Jersey Girl for the first time in Europe! All it took was a girl in the audience with a TShirt written Jersey Girl on it. The camera got hold of her and she was all of a sudden on the big screen. When she realized she was on that big screen she took of her TShirt and waved at Bruce, he grabbed it, went back wrapped it around the microphone and performed for the first time "Jersey Girl".... (especially for her).....

...so i finally broke through the 110 kg barrier, phew, lot of sweating involved. Since my personal training session, i also noticed that i am a weakling, almost everyone seems to be able to lift twice as heavy weights then me, but i work on it..., so next stop is then breaking through the 240 pound barrier, i keep you posted....

Here you can see the lake i am regulary fishing.

The watery-area left ot the little river is artificially made a few years ago. It was built to give the fishes and birds a save spot to breed. It is relatively small but neverthelless just after 10 years you no longer would guess it was man-made. On the northern end you can see they are currently extending it by a bit. the whole field in the west might get be done the same way too. The city council is still negotiating with the owners...

Old castle. It looks more impressive here. The castle dates from the 14th century....

Middle of Town, here i catch my trouts. (isn`t it great that one can actually catch trouts in the middle of town? I know i am blessed...

Lake Faak. The water is so blue, you want to jump in the moment you see the lake... [pretty warm too in summer around 26 degrees celsius (79 fahrenheit)]

More lakes i can fish. All not more then 5 miles away from home...

Here i can fish the largest Salmonidae that you get in Europe, The huchen or Danube salmon gets pretty big, the official world record is 35 kg (77 pounds)

Thats it for now, i go out and get some fish now!
