  1. The roman legion at 150AD would kill the army at 400AD in my opinion. The legions of old at 150AD had better armour and might of been better deciplined then the legion at 400AD.Constantine the so called great made in my opinion one of the worst decisions ever in war by making the roman army more defensive by using more cavarly to cover the vast distance of the empire instead of sticking with what worked in the past. And dont say heavy cavarly killed the legions of old b/c thats just a myth, just like the partians against the romans.Heavy cavarly for the most part would always lose to a deciplined heavy infantry with combined arms which the romans used very well. And constantine made the legions smaller in size for some odd reason. So constantine made the legions=infantry smaller and made the cavarly more of a focus and more funds for cavarly.Thats why some people think the legions at 150AD were better then the legions at 400AD b/c of more barbarians in the roman army which changed the style of the legion and made cavarly more of a focus.
  2. Constantine the great made the infantry smaller compared to the legions of 150AD.I dont know why you say constantine made the army bigger, infact he made the infantry smaller and more defensive by using and making cavarly more of a role in war then before.Just compare the pics by the legion at 150AD and 400AD.
  3. Decimus Caesar-------The sheer size of the Late Roman army would have made it difficult to equip. After all it had doubled in number since the reforms of Diocletian and Constantine. Usually the best pickings for the armour and helmets would go to the Scholae. Titus001------ I think you are wrong about constantine making the army of rome bigger,i think he made the infantry smaller and he made cavarly more of a focus. So he made the infantry smaller made the cavarly bigger=more funding training and armour for cavarly in which b/c of this strategy which i think is more of a defensive mind of thinking made the legions of old with less training and armour and also funding b/c more money was going to cavarly.I think this was a big mistake by rome.
  4. Yes this game would be fun for you if you like legions and the roman army.Your specs should be at the very least 512MB with 1.8ghz,if any lower i would not get this game or get a new pc or upgrade.
  5. Nice video wotwotius i was trying to find it on the history channel website but had no luck.
  6. So anyone here have any info on this subject,or a link to a website for me?
  7. Check this video, only 2 mins long and shows maps of most empires from egypt to now.
  8. Very cool map on all empires since egypt all the way to our current date.
  9. I was wondering what kind of relations did the mongols and the byzantines have?Did they ever go to war and have a battle? Were the byzantines a vassal state?I read some where that one of the byzantine kings was so scared of the mongols that he married off his daughter to the mongols. We can also talk about the mongols relations with all of europe also.
  10. Here is a video with a Byzantine flame thrower. http://www.history.com/minisite.do?content...p;mini_id=52979
  11. Many pictures are at this website. http://www.roman-empire.net/army/army-pictures.html
  12. Voruenus if want great pictures of the legion and maps i would try Roman empire.net.
  13. One thing i dont get about the late roman army is that the infantry, i mean the legions to me looked like they had less armour and less equipped like the legions at 150AD.Is it just me or do you guys agree? Not saying the legions in 350AD at the time of constantine were bad soldiers or not deciplined they just dont look well armed as the legions at 150AD.I think the legions at 150AD were better armed, armoured and might have been better deciplined in the infantry department.I do think the cavarly at 350AD were more advanced then the cavarly at 150AD.But i just think the army of ROME at 150AD was superior to the army at 350AD and beyond all the way when the western empire fell.
  14. http://www.roman-empire.net/army/legionary-late.html Here is a pic from the late 3rd century of the legion. http://www.roman-empire.net/army/centurion-late.html
  15. I thought Iamjoey was funny with his religion talking and his so called history.Oh well,he was funny in my point of view.I will respect the rules b/c i like this website.
  16. Man i gave up on the mods,i cant get any of them to work and i used all of them.Im just not good with comps. It would be nice if there was a patch like1.5 for rome that removed 2 roman factions and just used julii and the senate.I think its funny that rome total realism and europa which are based in so called history and realism but dont have the legions in lorica segmantata. There reason for not using it=It was not invented. But it was invented before 9AD
  17. lorica hamata is chan mail correct?Weird,i always thought lorica segmentata was better at defending against blows from axes or longswords since those weapons are not really used in a stabing motion but were used as a swinging weapon in most cases.Don't you think the cool looking armour=lorica segmantata would be better at defending from downward swings from an axe or sword compared to chain mail?
  18. And also can you tell me if rome used lorica segmentatta at 14AD b/c in rome total war thats when the game ends b/c in barbarorum the mod i dont think they have it b/c the mod makers said it was not invented. But this guy at Romanarmy.com said the romans did use that armour at 14AD.Anyone here know a lot about roman armour and weapons on this subject?
  19. And something else im at europa's website and one of the guys that made this mod said lorica segmetata was the worst armor rome ever used is that true?
  20. OK if anyone here plays Rome total war with mods i have some questions.First do any of you have Europa barbarorum? And if you do what are the differents between Europa and Rome total realism? And also do these two mods have the legions that wear lorica segmentata or just chain mail.I hope both mods have lorica segmentata but i dont think they will b/c the game ends at 14AD and the romans did not invent that armor yet. Thanks for the help......
  21. [ [iamjoseph But there were no muslims in the Roman Empire. Rome fell before islam emerged. How can you say that when Constantine the great in 330AD moved the capital of the roman civilization from Rome the city to Constantinople?I still dont know why people think the Roman civilization fell at 450AD or whatever year it was.Its kind of funny when you think about it b/c when the western side fell and lost Rome the city it was not even the capital of this great civilization. So iamjoeseph you need to get your facts right that the roman civilization fell at 1453.What a long time it lasted=753BC to 1453AD

    Rome And Usa.

i know this is off topic but i found another great video for you guys, this video is from C-SPAN and is called Dark Ages of America. It can be found at you tube and all you have to do is type in dark ages of america. The author compares the USA with the fall of rome so it should be a good watch.
  23. If you guys want to see a great video on the byzantines or the eastern empire go to google video and type in byzantium,it's almost 2 hours long but i think it's worth the wait since we enjoy history.
  24. Iamjoseph why would you say roman civilisation ended when the german people sacked rome the city?Constantine the great moved the capital of the roman civilisation eastward to Constantinople in the 300's AD,i dont know the exact date but he did this for a reason b/c the western side of the empire was very poor at that time had smaller settlements and was not as profitable as the eastern side where the trade and commerce of the empire was at,so the roman civilisation fell at 1453 by mosslem turks and the propaganda about rome and its fall began,it might of started back when Rome the city was sacked but i think the propaganda started when the pope was the law of the land and he started a kind of propaganda war about rome and i guess the propaganda still exists about the roman civilisation regarding when it fell.
