  3. my guess would be wtih any assassination... theywere prolly afraid of screwing up and what might have happend to them if they got cought.
  4. i partially watched a history channel doc on CC... he was a very interesting man...
  5. marcus... one example i can think of off the top of my head of history repeating itself is Nepolean taking his troops into russia during their winter and that leading to his defeat in waterloo... well Hitler did the same thing, he led his troops into russia during the cold russian winter and like wtih the corsican "king" the russia did a scorch and burn (?) policy... destorying everything as they retreated leaving hitlers army with nothing. leading to many of the factors that aided to hitlers fall... i have also noticed many other thing that tend to repeat... i find that aspect of life most interesting
  6. "Caligula loved dressing up and used to dress in rich silk, ornamented with precious stones and he wore jewels on his shoes." taken from http://www.xs4all.nl/~kvenjb/madmonarchs/c...aligula_bio.htm this line could be taken as him dressing up in women like clothing... then again it may not, and just mean that he dressed really rich like.
  7. i coulda sworn i heard something about him dressing in womens clothing on a history channel documentary about him... ill do a bit of research on him and find out for sure...
  8. for me i think it was all those over glorified battles in the epic movies that turned me on to history...
  9. might you be thinking of caligulas (sp?)
  10. hehe... ima say your "cheeky" just cuz i love that word welcome mang
  11. thanks for explaining all that ursus
  12. just a quick question that popped into my head as iwas looking at the map on this site... did the romans ever have any contact wtih people of nordic decent? vikings or anything of the like? or were the saxons the closest they ever really came?
  13. ive heard them both used to describe different periods on this forum. my question is what is the difference between the two, if there is one? and when did one become the other?
  14. i reckon if yall get bored enough yall can say whats up to me. i dont always feel like talkin though so dont be offended if i dont respond to ya at times... its nothing personal im sure i think my info is in my bar thingy below this...
  15. i figured id post this here since its all about the legion. i was looking for a way to connect scales to a leather backing and i came across this amazingly helpful guide to roman gear. http://www.larp.com/legioxx/index.html it explains in good detail all the types of armor they used and when and why they used it. also it shows you how to construct several of the things on it such as the scalemaille i was looking for. i just thought some of you all would find it useful or interesting to look at. specially some of you on here like me who dont know all there is to know like PP
  16. i would say the top one because its less fancy...
  17. does goldsworthy have a first name? i just googled him and found an artist...
  18. demson you seem to be correct, i translated what was said and although they couldnt translate the "verfluchte" word, the rest means "you are ... dogs!" thanks guys now i can inform my friend of what it really means and PP that lil movie is hilarious... ive seen it before
  19. well what interests me about rome is its military power. im fascintated by ancient wars and such. when learning about wars and how people faught back then i have found an interesting in WHAT they wore when they fought and why they wore it and things like that. rome is just a plethora (sp?) of military action im am most fascinated with scythians right now though... although its hard to find things on scythians as im founding out. in the Histories, when i get to a part about fighting im hooked, but once its done i loose interest again... i know very little about caesar short of the shakespeare play on him. but all that you mentioned deal with military action so it interests me...
  20. PM i am reading The Histories now, not as intently as i should as im so busy with my art and other things (since school will be ending soon and im graduating and all...) but when im done with it i intend to re-read it and take some good notes. also for the books you mentioned ursus, would they be things i could find at my loacl library? or would i have to look on amazon.com for them? is there a specific date i should start learning from? i mean, i dont want to get into like prehistoric history nstuff although that is rather interesting
  21. ursus you may be right, it could be gibberish. in king arthur i know they completely made up the "woad" language... and Dem, that sounds more apropraite then what i thought. now that i think about it i doubt the F word was even around then...
  22. i did try subtitles... all it says is "(German)"
  23. wow.. i feel so stupid. i cant belive i never thought to google image it. thanks a ton man
