  1. I too share youre admiration for the Assyrians ,not only its military. The Assyrian army brought in a new element of tactics and that was the so called first striking unit ,a group of specialy trained man who would deliver a first blow against a enemy that was still gathering and organising its troops and positions. The aim of such a striking force was to create disorder and to delay the organaised resistance of there enemy. It failed only once..during the battle of Quarqar in coastal northern Syria 858B.C It worked perfect on open plain area's but not against the hill and mountiniouce fighters of Urartu. a Funny work on ancient soldiering: http://www.amazon.de/You-Wouldnt-Want-Assy...6597&sr=1-1
  2. Simply impressive I must say. Youre name Ni Phwll sutes you well , dau born of Phwll a famouce char in the Mabinogian. Phwll (acording to the Red Book) once remarked he'd rather have daughters for the could sing bether then man . This remark was a grave insult becourse the Welsh where esp proud of there qual. as singers Phwll however pointed out that he had misspelled and ment with "singing" actualy using once witt. In Eng. Singing is often seen as blowing the whissele on someone in Welsh it is like humming seen as "thinking or considering" Ni Phwll is as name not ore no longer in use but called such by older people from the North of Wales means to be called a woman who uses her brains well.
