  1. Please excuse me for this - its a little off thread - but Columbus did not sail due west. Thats the popular story they teach in schools, but its far more likely he crossed the atlantic further south than presumed given where he landed up. I don't remember the reasons why he would have done that - sailing isn't exactly my subject and I can't remember the arguement - but doesn't the sargasso sea have something to do with it? In fact, if columbus avoided getting stuck then he either already knew about the hazards of being becalmed or was incredibly lucky in choosing his route. We now resume normal service... OK!, due southwest. He was becalmed. Some people feel that Columbus didn't know where he was going nor where he was when he got there. Remember, he was searching for the Indies and he knew that the Earth was round and that sooner or later he would bump into them. Adm. Morrison feels that this was the greatest voyage to date - including that to the Moon. Yes Columbus sailed to the west Indies. And as a result more exploreres came.

  3. History class, but then again i could be wrong.
  4. * gets measuring stick* Zut! Yes I guess you win. *hang head in despair*
  5. Mostly thats heroic myth, and although an iron-rich meteorite isn't unusual, most are very small and of no use for making weapons. Meteorites are not made of special quality metals I'm afraid, its just the same stuff we find everywhere on earth. Lets also differentiate between phenomena. Meteors are the larger lumps falling with a very impressive firework display, but very rare. Metallic lumps on the ground of extra-terrestial origin are meteorites and are baiscally interstellar rubble that only become visible on entering the atmosphere, as a 'falling star' without the characteristic tail. The ancient Mesopatanian king found a falling meteor. He made a short sword out of it. And this was before Iron. So it was pretty strong for them.
  6. Well, im not postive but meteors that got through the atmosphere were made into weapons, this is beacause meteors are made of iron. And they also probably thought it was a message from the gods. Again I know the ancient Mesopatamians did it, I think Romans did it to. Anyway, it would have been smart.
  7. I, a Slave of the Roman Empire object to this law called De ea re ita censuerant. This says we may not discuss the Mongols and Huns so forth, stuff form Asia. But, i'm pretty sure that the Romans battled the Huns. Just saying, don't know exactly if the Huns DO apply but if they do, thats not true, they did do battle with the Romans. But i'll probably be flogged for my inscolence.
  8. Thanks hmm. I must catch up on my roman Reading. I think im going to go read the Rise and fall of the Roman Empire. * Akwardly gets up*
  9. They went a lot further than that. Russia (Kiev was their kingdom), Byzantium, Iceland, Possibly greenland or labrador, and persistent theories have them on the west coast of america, even central or south america if you want to stretch things to breaking point.
  10. Caesar hands down. Caesar was brilliant, and had a military that loved him. And for crying out loud. He conqured all of Gaul and Britania. Also all his soldiers loved him along with the people making him the perfect General.
  11. Nobody looks at the vikings in there homeland. They were great farmers and inventers. They also were some of the best seamen who could navigate open waters and small riverways. They even went as far as raiding Paris!
  12. Oh i'm sorry, here you go. Rshritpoech Amabreh Dmshoy.
