  1. I have not watched the final, but my family told me that the Netherlands were bad losers, and that they gained many yellow and red cards. ~As Viggen mentioned before, New Zealand is the only country in the World Cup never to lose a game. Oh yeah!
  2. That is true, gold was a big factor also. Which also attributes to the decline in the quality and leadership of Roman Emperor's, as they did not have enough gold to use anymore.
  3. I have never read Plato nor Sophocles. What do they write about? ~I just finished reading 'The Kite Runner'. I disliked the main character a lot.
  4. I would probably say that an emperor was successful through both military conquest and opinion of the people. If they kept the Empire in line, for example Marcus Aurelius, or if you conquered new lands, eg Claudius, then you would be successful. However, if the people despise the emperor, he is obviously not very successful. So a popular emperor would be a key factor also.
  5. I remember skimming over an event in Northern Spain, where the Romans killed everyone they could find. I can not remember the name of the war, but I wondered if you guys did? It was in Northern Spain, and it was the last part of Spain to be captured.
  6. I think being a history teacher would be fun. I am planning on keeping it as a fallback career in my life.
  7. Welcome to URNV! I hope you enjoy it here, and feel free to ask any questions you need to:)
  8. Who here would want to speak to Homer and ask him to write another epic? I know I would.
  9. Now that would be something to blog about, someone other than our Rugby team being famous!
  10. Firstly I would talk to Caesar, and see what he thought on some particular issues, and I would also try and talk to Pompey and discuss his battles and Crassus to see his views on Spartacus and how he beat him. I would want to talk to all famous generals from Rome and other famous figures.
  11. I woke up today only to find Germany lost. I was deeply saddened. However, I am going for the Netherlands to win this one, mainly because a lot of them speak German, and I said I would go for the Germanic countries.
  12. That is a good point you make.
  13. The founders may not have owned slaves, but they hardly stuck up for them in the South until the 1860's in the Civil War. And 'freed' blacks living in the North were still poor. They were still inferior to the 'white' man, and they lived in stinking ghettos for years afterward.
  14. It seems a bit pointless though doesn't it? Him writing in code that no one understands for years...
  15. Happy independence day, although I personally dislike all these men, as their 'freedom' and all that mentioned nothing about Afro-American slaves who they oppressed even only 50 years ago. I don't know, but they just seemed to be selfish in the fact they did not count anyone who was not white and religious to be less than what they were. However, I do not want to spoil this thread with an argument, so for this day, I support America.
  16. Well I was unaware of that fact! ~What gladiator type do you reenact? I have always thought the Saminite class to be the best looking.
  17. 4:0? I personally was expecting a more close cut match. I have not seen the match yet, but I shall soon.
  18. Nah, I would possibly say England V Germany was the best so far.
  19. I did not expect that either. I thought Brazil were one of the favorites to win the tournament.
  20. A lot of those books look quite good and interesting. I like the look of Slaves of Ancient Rome and the Jewish Revolts.
  21. I am having to read 'Kite Runner' for school. Not my usual type of book, but I like it.
  22. This book looks interesting. I have no time to read now, but I have purchased and I shall read it as soon as possible!
