  1. Another Hypothetical question? What would happen if Julius had left more leigions to pacify Gaul when he left for Britain?
  2. It was close but the true fact is even if the Helvetii and other tribes had joined i personally dont think that it was physically possible for Julius to lose this one.
  3. It WAS close at times but Carthage just could not stand against the might of the Roman Leigions, in fact the only smart generals who went against Rome were mainly hit and run
  4. For those of you who do not know what the Gracchus land reform is, it is when Gaius Marius changed a law which had previously only allowed men who owned land and got a profit from it, i personally think that it was stupid to even place the law in the first place.
  5. It is 107 B.C. and the Grachuss land reforms were probaly the best thing which happened to the legions, to those that dont know what the Gracchus land reforms were it was when Marius decided to change a law which meant men who dident own farms and gaining a profit from them could join the leigions because they were fighting the second punic war (i think) and they needed men
  6. I always loved Gaul and have read Julius's book on The Conquests of Gaul i recomend it to you its an excellent book called
  7. I did enjoy reading about the tactics of Illipea so im voting for that
  8. sorry but i live in Sydney Australia and ive dreamed of joining a legion reenaction
  9. You must never forget the officers, they add up a fair few of the leigion
  10. Well even raising that many men against Rome is an accomlishable feat especially with great crushing defeats oif other rebellions close at hand
  11. they look like a fair quality but i would have to agree with lost warrior about not knowing
  12. The Roman infantry defeated Phobos knowing that the penalties were very harsh, Execution, Disbandment or even Decimation. Also they held because they knew that they were protected on both sides by other leigionaries wheras other tribes just ran as an onslaught leaving gaps or constricting each others movements
  13. Maybe so but you can definatly agree that he was not good for Rome. I mean i think it was 10 000 Romans he killed in Rome alone
  14. I personally am i strong believer in Julius not accepting emperorship and remaining dictator, the people loved him, he was bringing great victories all over the world, although he did, when several people hailed him as emperor and the tribunes threw them in the dungeons, got very angry at them and dismissed them, however he would not accept a crown even after several offers.
  15. Marcus Aurelias??? seiriously what great accomplishments did he achieve i mean i would put Cornelius Sulla before Marcus
  16. My order would have to be: Gaius Julius Caeser Hannibal Scipio Africanus Alexander the Great Gaius Marius
  17. What would happen If Julius Was not Assasinated would the Roman Republic stayed alive? Would Julius have conquered Europe? Asia? The World? Would we still accept Roman authority today?
  18. Who is the greatest General? Is it Scipio Africanus for his victories in Africanus, Is it Julius for his pacification of Gaul or maybe its Octavian for his humiliation of Julius Assasins you decide
  19. Also Caeser is not way overrated hes definatly on the same level as Hannibal and Alexander however i would back Julius Caeser as a greater tactician out of those 3 anyday
  20. Im dont have a degree in History but im a student of Latin so im pretty knowledgeable in the fall of the Republic
  21. Mine is Gaius Marius, Julius caeser, Pompey, Crassus and Cornelius Sulla
