I would like to be a soldier. Even though there is an element of risk involved, I would love the excitement of visiting distant lands and seeing history unfold before my eyes. By the way, if I had to chosse a time period, I would choose the late empire. I would love to defend Catholic Rome from a barbarian hordes.

Is money really the best criteria for judging ones wealth in Rome? How about land ownership? I think that land ownership would have been more important than cash?

I was told that Nero gave large amount of money for the relief effort after the fire. Also he rebuilt the city so that the houses were not so close together and fire not so easy to spread. (prior to this Rome was an accident waiting to happen because the buildings were too close together.)
