  1. Good point Prumuspilus, no religious bashing but I was just wondering where the Romans wern't religiously tolerant? I mean I understand Christians but most other Pagans were adopted into the Roman Pantheon. Another thing to this topic, did you know that the Romans wern't really rascist when it came to the idea of slavery? Almost anyone could be a slave from a Thracian or a Greek or a Slave from North Africa. When did they start jundging slavery by the color of the skin anyway?

Prumuspilus what does you name mean in Latin I am studing it at the moment,Thanks

  2. Ursus: I'm something of a pagan, and I deal with pagans from other cultures all the time. Many of them don't seem overly fond of Rome. Especially the ones of a Germanic or Celtic persuausion.

I seriously need proof of the Celtic Religion being destoryed by the Romans, the Romans let everyone worship their own gods they aslo brought many Celtic Gods in the Pantheon. Except Christians, I can see why they were some sort of a threat.

I being a Roman Pagan myself highly admire there system of religious tolerence by letting other Pagan Faiths in.

    Cheers,

  3. Rome the name brings greatness,

Rome the center of the world for almost four centuries,

The bringer of peace throughout the world at one time the rest of the world being a bunch of ruthless Barbarians.

Rome the center of Philosphy, culture, arts, baths, ampitherters, imperial libaries and the collesueem. (Hope I spelt that right)

Rome one of the greatest empires in the whole world, greater then the greed of Genis Kahans bloodthirsty hords, greater then the all the Christian Empires thrown together, smarter then Napoeleon's France, more culturally enlightened then Freedom loving America, more religiouly tolereant then the Ottaman Turks, the first great Republic after Greek City States, and of coarse the spreader of Classical Greek cutlure throughout the Mediterrean. Who could not like Rome..... I think it was probally the most best known empires in the world and I certainlly marvel at Rome.

But then there are those people who hate Rome........Those who say it was a monster that destoryed cutlures and murder of Jesus Christ, (which was by the way instugated by the Jews not the Romans). Those who say it was a mess of back stabbing politics and greedy Emporers, and a grand army that killed alot of people. An empire that eveyone citizens but failed to make everyone equal.

I have a question for everyone...........Do you think Rome was great and was one of the best places to live in the world at the time, and all together the best thing at the time.....or do you think it was a corrupt Empire that was responisble for killing Jesus on the cross and for esatablishing a dictorial system of goverence over many people?

I personally like Rome and I admire it greatly.

How about you? what do you think about Rome.........what if Rome had never existed??? What if Rome had been destoryed by Carthage perhaps or Ceaser had not won in Gaul? Do you think it was good or bad...or if you are in the middle explain points of the bad things about it or the bad things.

    Details.

    sorry about spelling

    Blessings,

    Zeke the Celt.

  4. Yes I forgot to relise that......but the Woads looked really real........But still now that I look back on it, it wasn't that good......when I look at their armor it almost looks Persian. That movie was a Mix of Lord of the Rings, Druids, and the Midsts of Avalon or something. I should have looked at the date. But I highly enjoyed it never the less

  5. Does anyone here worship the Roman Gods......I do......does anyone reconstruct Roman homes and such, Roman way of life using modern techologly. If anyone is a Roman Pagan please tell me about it...I want to know more about the spirtual world of anceicet Rome. I sacrfice but I don't animal sacrfice I pray and I have an altar. Sounds kind of imature but I do take it quiet seriously. I am just wondering. I also want to build a villa in Ireland or the Western United States. Any tips for reconstruction?

    Cheers,Zeke

  6. Vercengetorix the great Gallic commander of a Celtic Uprising in Gaul during 54 B.C. Let me give you a breif history for over 5 years the Romans had counqerd and held control over most of Gaul. Julis Ceaser was un-beatable and had even done an invasion of Britian! But out of the center of Gaul came a young Aladuibulani nobel (that tribe name is a little off) Vercengetroix. With amazing skill he wielded together a strong army of Celtic Warriors from almost every major tribe in Gaul. With Iron disiplen within about three months he had 80,000 Warriors. Ceaser heard of the uprising and came back into Gaul uniting his scattered Legions and attacking one rebelliong Celtic town after anthor, Vercengetorix although a poor tacitian and stragest was a strong leader who issued a scorach earth policy nothing was left to feed the Roman horeses and slowly the Romans began to starve. However most Celtic towns fell....still Vercengetorix was an inspring leader and repulsed Ceaser's assult on his capital city of Gergovia. He made a foolsih mistake however he sent a group of Calvary which attack a Roman collum the Romans beat it so bad that it forced thousands of Celts to retreat back to the great fortress of Alesia. Vercengetrix was trapped with 80,000 mouths to feed. He first sent the horeses then the citizens of the town out while Ceaser built his fortfications. Ceaser surrounded the fortress and began a long 7 month seige. Just before Ceaser had closed up his fotifications however Vercengetorix had sent out riders to ger more help from other tribes. The Celts united and came back with over 250,000 men! That was Ceaser's estiment in reality there were only about 50,000 to 100,000 Celts at the max plus an additional 80,000 in Alesia. VS Ceaser's 45,000 men with around 5,000 German Mercenary Calvary. If Vercengetroix had waited and not attacked he could have in turned starved Ceaster now surround by Celts on the outside. The Celts however attacked in foul rainy weather in un cordinated and random out bursts of attack. After several desprate un strategic attacks the Celts made one final massive assult on all sides in my view if they had made on cordinated attack on just one area they could have acheived a break through and would have gotten supplies to Vercngetorix dooming Ceaser and the Roman world.

Sadly however that big assult failed and Vercengetorix surrender two days latter. He was latter strangled in Rome after being led through the streets in chains.

So here is my question to you......

Could Vercengetorix could have won if he had better cercomstances like not raining and muddy ground? Could he have won if he had better wheapons and food

could he have one if the Celts pulled off some stregy and beat Ceaser at his own game

or would Ceaser have won anyway because he was un beatable???

Log you answear then say what you think of the great seige of Alesia ;)

  7. In my view Carthage had such a close chance to win that instead of Latin all Romanc Launguages would be derived from Phonecian. It wouldn't be called "Romanc" it would be called "Phoneco-Cartho or something and all laugnues would be simpler.

Anyway the reason I think Hannibal had such a close chance to win was the fact that after the battle of Canne, Hannibal could have marched on Rome and laid seige to it mabey starve it for years. The Roman Generals in Spain would have to get back to their great city and Hannibal would have destoryed them. After the battle of Canne many of the Italian city states came over to Carthigian side they could have sent supplies and troops. Moments after Hannibal's troops slaughtered 70,000 Romans on a field the size of centeral park, Marhabal the Carthigian who commanded the Nubians said to Hannibal with great haste

    "Let me take a command of troops to Rome and destroyed it" Hannibal stunned at the slaughter just stared off into the massive spree. He simply replied "No" And then Marhabal said with disgust the most famous words that changed the world as we know it;

"Truly the Gods have not bestowed all things upon the same person, You know how to counqer Hannibal; but you do not know how to make use of your victory.

    Epic isns't it?

  8. Ok this is my opinion and its going to sound kind of religious.....but the Roman Religion is my religion so I deffend it.....

The Romans empire fell because of 6 reasons........The Gods stop supporting the Romans as soon as they started to be converted to Christianity.....The gods were angering at the sins of mortals. The Military of Rome was too strong, the water in the anqueduts was poison it is a know fact that the average Roman lived to about 40 and many of them died of lead poesioning. And finnally the Romans were letting too many Barbarinas into the empire intill finnally came to an all out invasion by Barbarians.....Franks, Vandals, Goths, Huns, Lombards, Alamani, and several others. Finnally Econimoic faliure. I wouldn't cout poor leadership as a factor most empeoers were either insane or extreamly power hungry. Christinity help make the empire fall however because the gods in my views took away their favor from the Empire. ;)
