  1. They didn't have the authority to execute someone, they were under Roman rule. As such they could not put Jesus to death. They even admit that why they came ot him in the first place in gospels. (John 18:28-32)

I have to contend that statment, I believe that while under Roman rule most peoples were allowed to use their laws to exacute people, if the Romans were in charge of exacuting EVERYONE then nothing would have ever gotten done, only special cases were brought before the Romans like that of Jesus. Most of the "Zeolots" probably had there own laws and exacuted people in the montains while the Romans wern't watching. Jesus was a special case and I also can quote from the bible.....

    John 19:3

When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.

The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.

*By their law, not Roman law, the Romans thought he was inosent it was these Jewish fantics that ordered his murder and spurred the people on. Jesus's faith did not teach to rebel against Rome's rule either so he was off no threat at all.

Crucifixion was the standard punishment for this crime.

Also I don't know if that is a true fact, it takes alot of work to crucfie someone I would think the Romans would have just stabbed him the dark. They had to make a show though because thats what the main religious priests spurred them on. Roman power was most likely limiited to the cities alone they couldn't control all of the country side and the Jewish priests most likely had more power then we give them credit for. Pontious Pilate was a good man and a noble governor he tryed his best to be fair, especially with that "backwater" province was especially difficut to govern hence he had to be harsh at times though I wills tand to this day that the Romans were not guilty of any crime and I dobut the Roman EMpire declared Jesus a rebel. It was all the Zeolots idea.

  2. What is your ideal econmy......if you could live in the perfect world where you could mold your type of econmy and then put it into play what would it be?

    Here is mine:

An Econmy based off batering services and a taxs on certain goods like siliver and gold. Much like the Hawaiin Primitive Econmy or the Aztec Econmy in its primitive stages.

There would be a set price for certian things, example a horse would be worth a large peice of gold or a service such as building a shed or something. I would get rid of the whole idea of paper money, because in the ends it litterally worthless because we can't even back it up with gold anymore. Guilds would be for every occupation and insteand of going to college you could join a certain Guild to learn a trade so you survive in life, though a basic education would be provided when you were young. The government could take 1/3 tax on all goods they would send tax collecters to ask for certain foods and maybe some precious metals or building materials. Then those 1/3 taxes would be given back to the people in terms of services. PLanatation like farms would also have Guilds but a little bit of fedeulism would be involved in there.

Everyone would have a job and free medical and schooling, inflation would be no existing because there wouldn't be over printing of paper money because there would be no money everything would be based of battering goods and services by signing contracts and such. Guilds would teach the society the nessary things for it to survive. The goverment would have little power in econmy except to tax. ANd states of Counties would be cut smaller to make it eaiser on the battering system.

  3. Hey Spartacus......I desegree with you on your view. In those days, "The Roman amries" couldn't hook up as fast today and there would be days of delay between comunication. The Romans were geunitlly affraid of Hannibal and imagine if Hannibal had one another battle like Canae if the Romans had tryed one last pitched battle in Italy. I am thinking Hannibal would have won that then marched on ROme and seige it till it ran out of food. So I doubt that the Romans could have won in another pitched battle. And his brother only lost because he was a bad commander and heavly out numbered.

  4. Marcus Aurelius's Meditation was very enjoyble....but it seems like the guy had no soul and expect everyone to lifeless robots with extreme virtues. He is pratically diffing the gods for all humans and gods alike have vice and virtue. Vice and Viture is like yin and yang keeping each other in balance.

Never read Aristotle but I think I should :D

  5. that given the cultural conditions in the Roman Empire, christianity should not have survived; but since the resurrection of Jesus christ was a reality, there was a powerful spirit that beckoned many in those days to embrace this new religion.

No one prooved it was a relity at all.....a powerful spirit....sure there was a powerful spirit there I don't doubt that but I don't think it converted people alone it was the cunning of the church and the methods of converstion it used as well as its message.

And you know whats funny...after they embraced that spirit.....and took down the altar of victory and doust the fire of Vesta in the Senate house in Rome, never to be rekindled again.....Goths under Alaric sakced the city for the first time since the Celts in 390 B.C. thats no coincendece. The Romans abodandoned their old gods and they were punished servearly.

I think that if a guy like this can go about writing his own essay about a magical spirit converting everyone then I should write my own essay of the reaons the Gods abandon Rome to their "New Faith."

Not to be offensive but it makes me angry,

  6. There were two types of Roman Paganism....

The first one was for the common people who mainly lived in the country and the poor slums of the cities these people were most likely last to convert to Christainity clinging tightly to the old ways,

The Second one was the more rationalist, Sceintific approach that the upperclass favor.....Sotics is a big one one and Marcus Aurelius is its for runner. Also alot of Hellenistic Philosphy was mixed in there. These people used religion to their personal advantage not to explain things and to exploit everyone else..so they just saw Christanity as another way to exploit.

But I think that the Romans were eaisly converted not because their religion was weak or anything it was just that the Romans tended to go with the new fad that came along.....Christainity turned out to be a very dangerous fad. Mithrasim was very strong when Christanity first started to take the rains of government and the two forces battled it out for Mitrhasim was more aggresive in convertion and such then other Pagan Religions because like Christainity, it offered something. But it ended as well when Theodeious gave his anti-Pagan decree in 394 A.D. and outlawed all practice of Paganism throughout the Roman Empire.

The Romans simply went with the trend at the time if they could see into the future they would have made sure Christainity became extinct..not to be anti Christian of coarse I am just saying that I doubt the Romans would have wanted to live under such an oppresive Church that came latter in the middle ages then the liberal State runned Pagan temples.

  7. Yeah I know what you mean. The book however is centered around the evils of Christianity and the changing of a new world. I am a Indo-European Pagan myself so I am giving people a little insite of what happened before Christianity did come to power....most of them who wil read it will be Christians I am assuming. But it will be very anti-Christian not because I hate Christians myslef (I have many Christian friends) its just because of the fact that Julian had personal resentment toward Christanity in general and the book is about him.

I honestly do believe he was chosen by the gods...even if that does sound a little childish or too religious that is my honest opinion that Julian was the last great deffender of a collapsing world of Paganism.

  8. Yeah I had your idea DanM he was more of an intellectual then a fighter or a Carasmatic leader. Though he did lead many Campagains and many of the stories that are told tell of him sleeping with his men on the ground not in and tent like most officers of the day. I don't dout he was crazy and a dreamer as well I am going to point it out in the story. He had wonderful dreams but in relity with his death and his self ingulgences he really never got anything done. But yeah thanks for that I will add it to my reaserch.

  9. lol......Wow this disscusion sky rocketed out of control. Well I am back now from my comuter crashing.

You know....to be honest for all the past responses, my theory is this. A Roman Empire could form today from the basis of the European Union and if Greeco/Roman Paganism was set up in several states. If a Roman Political Party ran for office in several countries then they would change the whole spectrum. Two Consuls instead of a Prime Minister and a Vice Prime Minister. And a huge Senate...I don't know I am fanstasying here.

But a Roman Republic Party! That is the key for Romanized Politics to enter Europe. Just a thought

  10. Hello my friends, I have not been on this website for a very long while for my computer crashed and I just got it back.

I am writing a book on Flavius Claudius Julianius the last Pagan Emperor of Rome. Also know as Julian the Apostate. Is a historical Fiction novel but it is looking quite good.

Here is some information I have retained so far to give you a little hint of who he was.

Roman emperor 361-63, b. at Constantinople in 331, d. 26 June, 363, son of Julius Constantius, the half-brother of Constantine the Great

His mother was Basilina, the daughter of the governor of Egypt, who died shortly after his birth.

With his stepbrother Gallus, who was some years older, he escaped the massacre of his kinsfolk at Constantinople after the death of Constantine the Great, and was brought up by the eunuch Mardonius and the philosopher Nicocles

  11. Our buildings are made of titanium and steel, their's is well...made out of marble and stone)

Since when has a building been made out of Titanium and Steel (Besides Sky Scrapers) the average American home today is made of wood. Weaker material then stone because it rots faster and termites eat it.

The materials the Romans used were not that weak.....several are still standing!

    Zeke the Celt's Roman Fair

Nan I don't think I would want to start a fair lol.

A modern day Rome wouldn't be an Empire and it wouldn't be the accul capital of Italy. It was just use Roman things and such. The European Union I think might be the closest thing to a new Roman Empire, just not in an "Empire sense."

  13. I

thought Jack Whyte's books were awesome. One thing I liked is that it doesn't feel like a King Arthur story... you only occasionally remember that it supposedly is...

yeah I get that feeling to. It seems really romanaized I just finished the Skystone and now I am going to move on to the singing sword. Wonder if thats any good.............

    Zeke

  14. Ok I know I have said what if there was a Roman Empire today.....which is almost impossible but what if someone started a political party called....Roman Republicsm Party or something Latin that was catchy.

Do you think a system of government run by two Consuls and a Senate of some 900 members from each of the 50 states could work? Also the people elected Senators to vote for two Consuls each year?

Or do you think that a system like this would quickly fall apart? Why or why not?

Explain your answer using examples from history and explaining a little bit more about the Roman Senate... :) I need a history lesson on it.

I personally believe that maybe a system like that of the Roman City-State might work.

    Sorry about spelling,

    Chery O!

    Zeke ;)
