  1. I praise Matt Gallivan for his wonderful poem....and getting Fourth place I think he deserved first after reading all of the stories and poems but that just my opinion.

My own story I did not work that hard on, I was being lazy and I had a lot to do. Next time I will try harder.

But congrats to all the winners!! Enjoy the Aurelian Coin that I so longed for and of coarse the free map was what I really wanted.

So yeah good job this was a great contest I hope we do something similiar to it again.

    Sorry about spelling,

  2. Well even if they did have a peace treaty they would still be fighting over all the petty stuff that would arise, who would govern each province, who would be appointed on the Senate which Legions of Cartho/Romans would go here and there it would be a big mess. But it would also be very econmocially strong and I doubt inflation would be as high as it was in the late Roman Empire.

Still I think the Carthigians were better trade partners then the Romans but their arcitecture skills were poor compared to Rome's. And yes I believe that Carthage had good relations with SOME city states in Greece.

  3. Well there woulld't be an Empire to begin with this because if Carthage and Rome had a "united empire" of some sort they would always be fighting and would have never gotten anything done, the Romans wouldn't have expanded so far because the Carthigians would have been arguing not to but keep up with the profitable trade with Greece and not have Greece Anexed. Carthigians were more intrested in trading and mainting their rich properity then starting wars with the Potlemics or the Celts for example. While the Romans on the other hand believed in expansionism and the glory of their own small little city state. Carthage had territory but it wasn't because of their fantical patriosim (I doubt Carthgians had much loalty to Carthage half of them were not even Phonecian to begin with) but their fantical trade obbsecsion.

To point out other things.....Rome would be limited to Italy and Gaul and maybe Britian, while the Carthigian Senate would probably have compleate control over Spain and most of nothern Africa and negotiations would have to made with Rome because Rome had to live off African Grain. Roman Legions would be stationed on the borders of the "united empire" but would never go past the modern day Suez Canal because Carthage was more content with keeping up trade with the Macedonian Dictatorships of the former Persian Empire then accually annexing them. Macedon would be the third most powerful in the Mederterinian and would either join the United Empire or become destoryed by Rome. Carthigians would be supplying merchanies from all over and you might see Beleric Slingers or Libyian spearmen in Britian. While Celtic soliders would be stationed near Utica or Leptis Magus.

Parthia would have eventually come to power and would exapannd all the way through modern day Turkey and stop at the border of Thrace. Julius Caeser might never had existed and the Emperor of Rome would never exist.....instead it would be

    Consuler Roma Intepetator

    Consuler Carhtogo Inteperatator,

The two Senates would have to about 300 members and woul probably meet in neutral territory maybe the Spanish border with Gaul. Also Jesus would never have come to prominece and with out Roman rodes the world might still be Pagan and be living the same, Rome would not have expanded too much without taking over Greece because Greece is where all the philosphers came from to infulence the Roman state.

I find this an intresting theoretical disccsuion!

  4. Even if your Christian.....do you believe there are spirits in this world that effect our lifes, evil and good spirits that are there. This is just an opinion.

The Romans believed hevily in spirits most deises and bad happenings were caused by them.

  5. Most teachers were slaves that were in the Roman household and like the Greeks the Roman Children would learn the Illiad, the Odessy, Philosphy, music, mathematics (Probably business math) and of coarse atheletics..Roman children didn't have to go to school and I believe they were probably taught a trade by one of the parents untill they had to go to the army when they were 15.

Almost 65% of the Roman population was employed in farming when they got out of the Legions after 35 years of faithful service and probably remained farmers or became senators....Was the Roman army mandatory...because if it wsan't you probably didn't have to go to the army and became a potter, glass blower, marble sulpture, muscian or politican, or other numerous jobs that were avaliable.

I don't think the army was mandatory....but someone correct me because after some schooling when they were younger Roman male children became soliders.

    Sorry about spelling and grammer,

  6. Well many of the Romans at first, distrusted the converts of Christanity because they thought that Christians were atheists since they did not believe in Roman gods. They thought Christanity was a strange mystery cult tampering with Roman Morals and virtues many a Roman Emperor such as Marcus Aurelius thought that Christanity would bring down the empire because he thought it was corrupting Roman soceity.

But as said by Ursus, the Romans after their intitial disturst of Christians began to except the new faith because it offered something more then the older Pagan Faiths.

  7. When Rome became a big empire...few of its soliders were accually ITALIAN born. Only the officers were Italian or Roman technically the rest were Thracians, Gauls, Spanish,Greeks,Britons, Illyrcriums, Bebers, Egpytians the list goes on and on. But in the early days of the Republic most people of the Legions were Italian the Romans most likely considered the Celts or the people that latter became a huge part of the army as "Barbarians not fit to serve Rome."

  8. Most of the time....Mythology is just plain (myth)ology! The centaures and the sun being driven by a chariot and all the time line stuff is all just a funny story inveted to make people laugh and explain stuff way back then. I agnolage that almost all Greek and Roman Mythology is entirelly false...all these mytholgies are just stories, false made up stories by illterate humans beings, exacly like the bible which is a book of Jewish mythology almost all of the tales are compleate fiction thought up by writers to explain things of the Jewish and Christian faith. I mean the tower of Babel, Noah's ark, and all the other wild outlanish tales includding the false tales they told of the worship of Baal they sound highly unbelievable just like Baccus turning pirates into dolphins or Demeter's daughter being kidnapped by Hades.

All I see mythology as is the unqiue indvidual stories that cultures create to amuse people and to explain things that happen in the past with the faith.

When in comes to religion it's the worshiping that counts not the tales of the divine being that could be compleatly false the belief is the true essence of any religion what so ever!

    Zeke
