Claudius - Underestimated And Overlooked
Scipio Africanus replied to Pax Orbis Furius's topic in Imperium Romanorum
Good write. I didnt know much about Cladius before. Thanks =) -
Yes there will be at least a second season. I just hope the reaction in the UK is solid enough to help push for a 3rd. As for Vorenus and Pullo... From Julius Caesar, the Gallic Wars book 5 chapter 44. Thanks . thats exactly what I was looking for =)

Worst General Or Politician In Roman History
Scipio Africanus replied to Sextus Roscius's topic in Imperium Romanorum
Ya 50,000 Romans dead because of overconfidence and bad leadership is nuts. Facing Hannibal on the field of his choosing is about as stupid as it gets, regardless of the number advantage you have over him. If Hannibal would have beseiged the capital after Cannae history could have been vastly different -
Im sure the Circus would be very exciting to watch. But I think comparing it to the gladiatorial games is like comparing Boxing to Nascar, or Football to Baseball . I mean to each their own. Its a matter of opinions I think. Both are great in my mind =p

Universities And Or Scholarships
Scipio Africanus replied to Scipio Africanus's topic in Hora Postilla Thermae
Thanks for your posts guys. Well I dont got a 4.0 GPA so that can be an issue and I havent taken my SAT/ACT's yet so im not sure. I live in boise and I know BSU has a decent program as thats where all my Latin teachers have graduated but im not sure. The money issue I have no clue yet. I am still pondering joining the military. and if thats the case I think I can broaden my horizon monetarily. I do appreciate your guys responses. I had no clue on what schools to look at. -
Roman Victories. Which Is Your Favorite?
Scipio Africanus replied to a topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
Wasnt that when he saw the greek symbol for christ in the sky and painted it on all his soldiers shields and helmets? Sic hoc victor eris? by this sign you will conquer? if I remember correctly -
Ive always loved history, but until my 9th grade year I wasnt really exposed to Rome. I took Latin to help with my vocabulary, and I had an amazing teacher. Larry Stamps old and balding, not much to look at but he was like a father too me. All it took was one telling of the history of the Punic Wars, mainly the second, and I was hooked. I live and breathe Rome now. Id like to become a teacher or historian after high school. I just cant figure out how im gonna pay for it yet =p. Well I am approaching my senior year in high school, and Ive had some trouble finding schools witha good reputation for Latin and or ancient history * Rome in particuliar would be nice. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. also if anyone is aware of any latin/history scholarships available id be interested in hearing those as well. Many thanks. Vale

Roman Victories. Which Is Your Favorite?
Scipio Africanus replied to a topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
Id say Zama. Im pretty fanatical about Scipio though so my opinion can be biased =p But in overcoming so great a general as Hannibal is a pretty great accomplishment, despite the odds. ANd the tactic to make the elephants obsolete. Pretty amazing =) -
Is there any historical accuracy to Verenus and Pullo? I love how the show isnt just about caesar. And also does anyoen know if HBO plans on making a second season?

Phalanx Vs. Legions
Scipio Africanus replied to WotWotius's topic in Gloria Exercitus - 'Glory of the Army'
Its my opinion, which may be wrong I got much to learn, that the Legion has the ability to defeat the phalanx. If only because it was so much more mobile. Of course it depends on leadership..... -
Worst General Or Politician In Roman History
Scipio Africanus replied to Sextus Roscius's topic in Imperium Romanorum
Well from what I do know I would have to say the worst military leader goes jointly to the two consuls in 216 BC that were in split command leading the army against Hannibal. I dont even know their names off the top of my head. -
Id be glad to see a thread focusing on translation. it can get difficult in school when every year we have switched texts and teachers.

My opinion of this show is very high. I have loved watching it and have tuned in for every new episode. Its captured what I believe is an accurate opinion of roman society. except they pronouce the latin incorrectly.
