Welcome and Introduce Yourself Here

Recommended Posts

Ave. I have been interested in History since the age of 8. Now I am 39. I am so addicted to the stuff people get fed up with me, but I cannot help it. :D Greetings to everone.

Well, we can guarantee everyone here is equally addicted in some form or another... so no worries on that front :)

Thank you Primus Pilus, that makes me feel a lot better!

Greetings friends,

after receiving an e-mail from this site I figured I might start posting occasionally. I have no idea how often I'll be able to contribute, but at least this introduction is a start.

My name here is my real life name, my location is the Netherlands. I am a second year student in Archaeology at the University of Leiden. Here in Leiden, the first year is a broad introduction to Archaeology and ancient cultures all over the world. From the second year onwards, a student chooses his/her specialty. You won't be surprised to find out that I chose Classical Archaeology.

Next to Archaeology, I started studying Philosophy this year. I'm only a beginning Bachelor student in Philosophy and a second year Bachelor student in Archaeology, but I hope to earn Master titles in both disciplines. Before University, I attended what in Dutch is called 'Gymnasium' and in other countries is usually known as 'grammar school'. Here I learned Latin and a bit of Greek. (In retrospect, it's a shame I dropped Greek!).

Apart from this 'formal' introduction, I can tell anyone who is for some reason still reading that I have a lovely girlfriend and that I train a lot (running, Aikido). I have no job, since I do two studies fulltime.

I hope to be able to visit this forum regularly.

Have a wonderful day,

Stefan Kruithof

Salve!

I overlooked my civic responsibilities by not noticing this thread. I found the site by chance looking for information on Stoic literature. I am fascinated by Rome and its relevance to contemparary life in all its manifestations. I see a good mix of scholarship, wit and opinion. I live in the North of England .

I add that I fell under the spell of Rome when I first visited Housesteads Fort many years ago and my interest has been vigorously rekindled by several visits to Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Ave!,

I am Decimus, Praetor Urbanus and Site Admin of the municipia Visions of Rome (www.visionsofrome.com). Visions of Rome is a new Roman themed site featuring a forum and gallery. Like most of you I discovered Rome and haven't looked back. My specific interests include Roman engineering and architecture, Pompeii, and the roman army in general. My intent is to create images of ancient Rome via computer graphics. Currently I am in the process of recreating a scene from Hadrian's Wall. Please feel free to visit our site.

And what fantastic site you have here! Surely a good reference and source for info on Rome. I am interested in exchanging banners with UNRV for mutual site promotion. I am in contact with other roman website admin's to spread the word that Rome lives on the web.

Cheers,

Decimus

No exchanges...tis a shame. To each his own.

Thank you Flavius. Some of us like to write or read about antiquity and some of us like to visualize it. Think about all the frescoes and mosaics found in Pompeii alone. Indeed we learned much from those visions. And some of the images are graphic but no more than one would find in ancient Rome.
