longbow Posted May 11, 2005 Report Share Posted May 11, 2005 The Romans permitted the Franks to settle the land (modern Belgium) in AD358 to act as defenders of there Rhine Frontier.When the Roman Empire in the West fell,Clovis made his capital in paris and converted to Christianity.He had battles with the Germanic tribes and the Visigoths,he was given some sort of title by the eastern roman Emperor,but i cant remember what it was Anyone got any ideas?allso who was the Emperor? thx L Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Philhellene Posted April 26, 2006 Report Share Posted April 26, 2006 (edited) According to Gregory of Tours, roman emperor Anastasius gave Clovis a title "consul" and after that he called himself consul or Augustus (Historia Francorum, II, 38).
