Why Not Poetry?

[The Augusta]

Another short and to the point poem that I love is:

 

Christmas: 1924 - Thomas Hardy

 

'Peace upon earth!' was said.

We sing it,

And pay a million priests to bring it.

After two thousands years of mass

We've got as far as poison-gas.

 

 

As a staunch Hardy fan (both prose and poetry) I've always thought that this little number sums everything up nicely.
