  1. As a member of the delegate from Kah-lee-4-knee-ah...

--McCain was ok, until he muttered some dribble about having to support the president, simply because he was elected by the people and for the people, and therefore he is our representative. Um, bull-pucky...I didn't vote for the putz even for governor (yes, I was living in Austin at his last election), let alone for president.

--Hillary...nope, she scares me. Actually, the thought of Bill around impressionable interns scares me. And Hillary's politics.

--Obama...not sure about him yet. I personally think he's too green...but that might be what gets him elected, that he isn't as 'tainted' as the others.

Overall...I say we start all over again...cuz what we have ain't exactly impressive.

  2. The ibuprofen is culpable in damaging the gut wall integrity, it is available over the counter but is included in many other medications.

I think all pain-killers are inherently evil if overused...and, sadly, many overuse them. I'm down to rarely having to take an Advil (ibuprofen), and instead switch to a potent potable of choice  Better for you, I reckon, plus it makes life so much happier!

  3. I hear that a new study has taken garlic off of the menu for bad cholesterol.

Bull pucky. Garlic and onions are a part of the culinary repetoire in nearly every gastronomic culture. They ain't bad...and there are few things in this world that rival roasted garlic spread over hot bread, with a wonderful fruity red to sip upon. Anyone who says otherwise needs to get away from the vampires.

  4. I am going to publish a small paper on identification of the species, with a photographic guide , early versions will be beta tested on my msn blog.

Cornell have this useful resource for a particular locality:

    http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...ficial%26sa%3DG

take a good look at the Water Hemlock stem colour.

I will put some shots up on msn soon and pm you -leaf shape, inflorescence shape and smell all help, but if in doubt , dont eat em!

Wonderful, Pertinax...I've been curious about the flora that grow locally, and the whole "If you don't know, don't touch/taste!" mentality keeps me from going near what I suspect to truly be hemlock. Even if it is wild fennel...I'd rather get mine from the market ;)

  5. P: Jacuzzi and sauna , light sleep.

GO: (Only needed once a year at most. Are you trying to kill her?)

Me: Jacuzzi/sauna/sleep is best, methinks. Esp. after walking all day in heels!

    P: 1.butter glazed baby asparagus

    GO: (Lots of oysters)

Me: Definitively P's answer; I'm allergic to shellfish, and asparagus is an all-time fave

    P: 2.soup of lamb's kidneys

    GO: (Past' 'e fazoul)

Me: gotta go Pasta e faggiole...not a 'innards' fan, save for bacon-type products (are they still considered from innards?)

P: 3.sauted veal with light nochhi verde

    GO: (Wot's this?)

Me: he means gnocchi...and I could do this. Even if my nonna ruined veal for me (she made it mushy...don't ask)...this could hit the spot.

    P: 4.profiteroles

    GO: (And sfogliatelles and cannoli.)

    Me: Yes, please

P: 5.a selection of cheeses, celery hearts and oat biscuits.

GO: (And lots of port wine and cigars.)

Me: Don't know if the port/cigars would go...but I like the cheese/celery idea!

    P: Dry Martini, Pertimaxus,

    GO: (Perfect Patented!)

    Me: Amen

    P: A smokey Claret . Monbazillac.

    GO: (Yeah, sure.)

Me: hey, don't be picky...might even go a nice Pinot Noir or Chianti (I'm into lighter reds right now...just in the mood, I guess)

    P: Retire.

GO: (Why bother? Party. You're already smashed. Put it off to another day. Tell them you were in jail.)

Me: If in good company, then I shall be with them. If alone (and that would be sad), then I shall retire. Sorta.

Either way...there will be celebration appropriate to the number of job offers received. Gotta go through this again on Wednesday with Campus #2. Heels and all!

  6. I used to make bread more often--more Italian 'peasant' style, but I will make a sourdough starter again in the next few months, once I get settled again. I love the activity, and the taste is unreal. Never have used a bread maker; always did it in the oven with a pizza stone. The day I make it, I always have a snack/meal of fresh bread, olive oil with balsamico and some sea salt and cracked pepper, all mixed together. That, and a good chianti or pinot noir, and I'm a very happy camper!
