  1. This is also important as Rameses the Great has been noted to have red hair, hena was not used proved throught DNA testing. Also he is the most important pharaoh of Egypt for without him Egypt would have never revived after centuries of foreign rule.

I'm just curious as to how they got these strands of hair and why they want to buy hair over three thousand years old.

  2.

LOL, heard about it. Sports analysts had a hard time saying it clearly without getting fired. ;)

I'll just show my picks here:

    (1) Florida vs. (2) UCLA (I think it will come down to free throw shooting and UCLA's guards are way overrated IMO. They've been playing bad teams, including Pittsburgh, and are from the PAC 10.)

    (1) Ohio State vs. (2) Georgetown (Hibbert and Oden will be non factors considering they'll be in foul trouble. Green is overrated but Ron Lewis still needs to play big and knock down 3's.)

    Post your's.

  3. Well, for one thing France had the strongest army in Europe at that time, much stronger than Germany's. German tanks were much inferior to most Allied ones even in 1940, let alone '37 and '38. It is a well known fact that during the Austrian anschluss the Panzer divisions suffered an enormous rate of breakdowns that drove the Fuhrer apopletic. What won the German victory in '40 was a superior battle doctrine and imaginative use of modern battle tactics, as well as the brilliance of Guderian and Manstein.

If Germany had been attacked while it was busy with Poland it could not have sustained a two-front war. During the occupation of the Rhineland Hitler went through some of the most anxious hours of his life, and this is from his own confession. He knew that if France took decisive action at that point Germany would have been done for. France and Britain did not act until very late, fortunately not too late.

The end result of WW2 showed how ill equipped Germany was to fight a global war. It could definitely have been taken care of before things got so murderously difficult. What the Polish, Norwegian, and French campaigns did was to allow the Germans to develop and perfect a brilliantly imaginative battle doctrine in the most sure and tested school of warfare - the actual battlefield itself. Plus these campaigns contributed enormously to the aura of German invincibility. Things should not have been allowed to get to that point.

But I guess all this is being wise after the event.

Not exactly, after the Franco-Prussian war the Germans had the best tactics and military leading up to the World Wars.

  4. Is it really our fault the nicely clothed, 'I'm going to overwhelm you with sheer numbers' Persians lost? The Spartans did something rare in beating back all those Persians wave after wave. They knew they were going to die and they did one heck of a job.

I'm going to see it. :whistling:

  5. My AP class has finally reached WWII! One of the main points I'm taking from the unit is how WWII came about. After WWI, America pulled into extreme isolationism, mainly due to problems at home (Great Depression) and failure of Europeans to pay their debt back. Near the end of the 30's we see thugs like Hitler, Moussulini, and the Japanese pushing their way around. Normally powers like the US arbitrate and solver their issues, or voice their displeasure. Well, according to the text, America was so dissilusioned with European affairs they refused to intervene at all costs, allowing the fascists to build their stage and eventually dominate Europe.

The best explanation I can probably give was that the American army was at that time not up to speed with much of Europe. I personally believe the later the Americans entered the war, the less the economic toll would be. America liked to put its business in small matters but a World War was a big issue.

Perhaps it even shows to its German citizens that it will choose a path of nonalignment if not directly impacted.

  6. The Japanese had been pushing a programme of modernisation and industrialisation since the middle of the nineteenth century in an attempt to become, in effect, a western - style industrialised nation. With input from the US and European powers, they succeeded. Russia, onthe other hand, was probably the least developed of the European powers. I think this also explains a lot.

I wouldn't say they were the least developed, that would probably be Italy.

On land, the Japanese took advantage of their complete mastery of the sea lanes and the fact that Russian communications consisted of a single rail and telegraph line that reached all the way back to Moscow, by laying siege to Port Arthur and finally taking it. With these two victories under their belts, and with the Russians finally in the process of sending a massive army across Siberia via that single rail line, the Japanese were only too glad to agree to peace in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

    Better now!?
