  1. A good firewall (hardware preferably), anti-virus software (regularly updated with virus definitions), anti spyware is good if you use IE, try using Mozilla to surf the web it is much more secure than IE (and better for that matter)!
  2. Haven't we already done this? Eitherway, I go with Scipio, Caesar is a VERY close 2nd!
  3. Aggripa was dead by 10 AD, FYI
  4. When Seutonius talks of victims, he means sacrificial animals. Not humans!!!
  5. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england...set/4530905.stm
  6. My favorite period is 2nd Punic War through to late Republic/early Empire.
  7. Caesar was Great. No ifs or buts. Envision a Churchill/FDR/U.S Grant/Patton/Henry V/Alexander, and you have Caesar!
  8. Nah, it was M. Antonius talking about Octavian
  9. Am I the only one who is 100% rational? Does that mean I'm the sole Darwinist here? Does eveyone else think there's a giant guy with a grey beard living in the sky?
  10. Spiteful Loner You are 100% Rational, 14% Extroverted, 57% Brutal, and 42% Arrogant. You are the Spiteful Loner, the personality type that is most likely to go on a shooting rampage. You are a rational person and tend to hold emotions in very low-esteem; not only that, but you are also rather introverted, meaning you probably bury any emotions you feel deep inside yourself. Combine these traits with your hatred of others and your brutality, and it seems that you would be quite likely to shoot innocent people in a rampage. Not only that, but you are also a very humble person--not a braggart at all--meaning you could possibly have low-self esteem. This is only yet one more incentive to go on a shooting rampage, because you wouldn't care if you died as a result. Granted, you probably haven't gone on a shooting rampage and probably never will, but all the motivations are there. In conclusion, your personality is defective because you are too introverted, brutal, insecure, and rather unemotional. No wonder no one hangs around you, you morbid, cold-hearted freak! To put it less negatively: 1. You are more RATIONAL than intuitive. 2. You are more INTROVERTED than extroverted. 3. You are more BRUTAL than gentle. 4. You are more HUMBLE than arrogant. Compatibility: Your exact opposite is the Televangelist. Other personalities you would probably get along with are the Capitalist Pig, the Smartass, and the Sociopath.
  11. Here goes "You, boy, who owes everything to a name"
  12. Perhaps some of you may be able to shed some light on this! We all know from our reading that the Tribunship was not open to members of the patrician class. My namesake Publius Clodius Pulcher went through a process called "Relegatio" to have himself "demoted" into a lesser class in order to run for Tribune. Also, one of Caesar's pretexts for his invasion of Italy was that he was "...acting in defence of the Tribunes", those being Marcus Antonius and Gaius Curio. Further, Cato was at one point a Tribune, and other famous Tribunes include Drusus and of course the Gracchi. Of all the famous characters mentioned, were none of them of patrician class? I find it hard to believe the Gracchi, Drusus, and Mark Antony were not pats!! Your thoughts please......
  13. I'm not sure about my namesake Clodius' height, but I'm pretty sure his testicles were quite large!
  14. The average height of a Caesarian legionary was 5'2 due to their corn based diet. They didn't eat meat to often.
  15. When the ancients talked in terms of "Barbarians" it didn't invoke the negative connotation it does today. They simply meant foreigners.
  16. Quitus Fabius Maximus, Marcus Claudius Marcellus, and the three Scipio's are what happened. Effective military leadership gradually took precedent over political ladder climbing. Maximus checked Hannibal, Marcellus hung on to him like a pitbull on steroids, and the Scipio's carried the war on strategically.
  17. Primus, that was some rebuttle! Germanicus, I urge you to go beyond Graves/Seutonius in analyzing these events. Please read some modern interpretations as mentioned previously in this thread.
  18. I love the part where the legions are marching over the hill in checkerboard formation. It gives you a real feel for it.
  19. I think there was an Asiaticus too
  20. I love Scipio and yours is a valued contibution Skanderbeg. Please more, more.......!
  21. Augur, Tiberius has been wrongly vilified by history due to Primary Sources with an agenda. These sources wanted to attack the Julio Claudian dynasty. They could not attack Caesar, Augustus or Claudius because they all became gods, doing so would call into question their own "Pietas". So why not attack the people around them, some of the descisions they made etc.... One of those favorites to attack was Tiberius. Remember, he was accused with perversion and corruption. I'm sure, if Tiberius had a sister he'd have been accused of shagging her too. These are all classic examples of ancient character assassination. See my name sake Clodius, Caligula, et al.... In reality Tiberius was an able military commander, and an able administrator. The empire thrived under him. He was trusted by Augustus, given Imperium, Tribunicia Potestas, and effectively became co-ruler during the latter years of the reign of Augustus. The actions of Sejanus cannot be wholey blamed on Tiberius. Imagine this, you lend your car to someone and that someone runs over a pedestrian, is that your fault? Tiberius' motives for leaving Rome were his attempt to hand back some autonomy to the Senate. He was, in the end guilty of being nothing more than a reluctant ruler. http://www.unrv.com/early-empire/final-years.php The book link on the right hand side of the page is an excellent read for some of you who would like to learn more of Tiberius.
  22. Tiberius didn't have Germanicus wacked. He suffered because of his death, not because of his life. Don't believe everything you read in the primary sources. Remember, they had an agenda!
  23. Yeah, maybe I'll download an Al Quaeda sig, same difference!!
