  1. I am keen to make a signifer standard for the use of our group. Could anyone help us to identify where we could obtain the necessary parts for this. Particularly the round discs and the half moon shape metal piece for the bottom.
  2. I first read a book on the Easter Islands when I was 10 and I got hooked. Then I started researching the history of my home town. I then met my husband who was into Roman Archaeology and I used to accompany him on digs. Then he got involved with another roman group but was disillusioned so we decided to set up our own group.
  3. We are based in Honiton, Devon, England, our e-mail address is on the file. I will e-mail you with all the other details.
  4. Well thanks for that it is much appreciated, does anyone have any suggestions what could be included in the code of conduct.
  5. What sort of standards would you expect to see from someone who is portraying a Roman soldier. Which do you consider most important: Visual Impact, Knowledge of History or the whole presentation that they put on?
  6. From what I know , I believe that the Lorica Segmentata was used through to the late 2nd century and was replaced by the Scale Armour (Can't remember its name offhand). The helmet we use is the Gallic type helmet and I think the Pompeii type gladius. Hope this helps.
  7. Yeah thanks for that but how do you think that we could persuade other people to come around to the idea?
  8. We have recently come across some impersonators of Roman Legionnaries who do not know the history of the Roman Legions and do not wear the authentic uniform of the day. I was wondering if any other re-enactors out there have a code of conduct between them and other groups or is it everyone for themselves? Do you think that there should be some form of rules that everyone should obey? I really need some answers because our group and several others in the area are being threatened by these guys.
  9. I set up a re-enactment group 3 years ago, we were called the Moridunum Detachment Secunda Augusta but we have now changed our name to III Cohors, Legionis Secundae Augustae because no-one could spell our name. At present we do not have a website but perhaps in the future!!!
  10. Born in Canterbury,England now live in Devon, England
  11. I would question Caesar about what he discovered when he first tried to land on Brittania and what actually made him turn and flee. Also what were the natives like?
  12. Although we are a small Roman Re-enactment group we would like your views on how we could set up a forum for members of re-enactment groups. Would anyone be interested in discussing ways that groups could improve on their displays, costumes etc. This need not be limited to the UK but could involve discussion from all around the world. I see this as a good thread but what are your views and what would you include on the site.
  13. My home town has origins dating back to the iron age with a hillfort and burial mounds situated in the area. We also have part of the Inkerman Street running through the main street as well as early medieval almshouses, a 12th Century church, a 15th century church and a 19th century church. Our town has a mixture of medieval and georgian architecture. The most notable thing about this town is that it once housed 24 inns and taverns along the main street.
  14. 33 but look younger and act older
  15. In my opinion, the crest is placed on Officers helmets so that while in battle, the legionnary could identify who was who.
  16. That's a good link PrimusPilus. At what stage would they have become a fully trained soldier? and how would they be awarded the rank of a low level officer?
  17. Could anyone tell me what sort of training a Legionnary would have had and in what order would they have received it. Would it have been daily, weekly or whenever they could fit it in? What would the initial training consist of? I am trying to train my unit up and I am so daunted I don't know where to start?
  18. OK, what do you think they would have had to say?
  19. Can anyone enlighten me on the wording that a Legionnary would have used whilst swearing the oath. Also would this wording have been used by an Officer as well.
  20. I think Legio II Augusta because they were Vespasians commandoes. The Elite!!
  21. I am an ESFJ E - 63.33% I - 36.67% S - 55.26% N - 44.74% T - 50% F - 50% J - 65% P - 35%
  22. I own a couple of Roman brooches although I do not think that Roman artefacts should be bought and sold. This not only disturbs the archaeology but when one is investigating an archaeological site and all the pieces have been sold, then how can you use the artefacts to date a site.
  23. Which Roman town do you consider to be the most important in Britannia and why?
  24. I like the bit when the Roman soliders come marching into his apartment looking for Brian and they then marched out saying nothing here sir meanwhile Brian was hiding under a basket.
  25. Our name is Legionis Secundae Augustae. We are based in Devon, England. If you would like further details then please send an e-mail.
