  1. (As I'm finishing my second day in a row of working with the newest flubug that's going around) How did Romans deal with illness? Was it 'business as usual' so long as you could work? Or were they far more interested than modern people seem to be in taking time to take care of themselves? I assume that plebs would have worked if at all possible because they had to. But what about those who had the luxury of taking time off? Did they?

    Wow

GO. I'll be careful. She is 44 years old and lives in Canada. AnxietyTribe is not a dating service. What do YOU think the dancing banana means? C'mon Ursus...you know this...Beltaine, banana...

    Wow

I didn't realize it'd been so long since I updated!!!! I've been keeping myself busy, I jumped right in with my Gwyddon studies and I have my first group ritual this Monday (Beltaine!!!). I've been collecting supplies, sewing robes and am preparing to set up an altar. Most of it I hope will be set up tomorrow. Unfortunately the onyx bowl I ordered isn't here yet...I didn't realize it was coming from Canada or I would have ordered it sooner. *sigh* I may wind up using a temporary one until it gets here. I had a therapy appointment on Thursday (that reminds me!!! I have to add my next one to my calendar or I WILL miss it!) Tamar says I'm doing REALLY well. I am, I can totally feel a difference. Last night I joined a site called Anxiety Tribe and I happened to pop into the chat room (something I rarely do...I was bored and lonely). I already met someone there I think I'll be able to really connect with!!! I got a new deck of Tarot cards (which I love!!!! I'm a divination geek *grins*) and a Celtic Women CD, which I double love!!! I've got a cold. Joy of joys. My coworker snapped at me yesterday morning...I only have a vague idea why and I really think he overreacted...I don't believe for a second that I deserved it. But I know he's been having a bad week, because he's getting sick as well and my boss has had him running around like a chicken. *sigh* he doesn't understand my curious problem-solving nature and I think it pisses him off when really, it shouldn't.
  4. I am a member of DA, but I don't post my stuff there. I don't really like their TOS. I have a lot of my work published on my own blog (see link in my sig).
  5. I've been thinking about publishing some of my fractal art (they're made with Apophysis 2.0 if you're wondering). I have never tried to get something like this published before, and I don't know where to start. I don't want to go the CafePress/Zazzle route. I have hundreds of fractals, and some of them are quite beautiful if I do say so myself. I'd love to be able to actually make something of them, instead of having them all sitting on disks in drawers somewhere. Ideas?
  6. Oh. LOL No matter. I have hummus now. With red pepper.
  7. So, why would you be using leaves for humus (hummus?) I know when I rake my yard, I do NOT eat the leaves. LOL
  8. I thought hummus was a spread made from chick peas (speaking of which, I should make some. Yum!)
  9. In battle, trumpets and I believe flags or standards were also used to convey messages. Don't forget the good old fashioned signal fire!!!
  10. I had actually thought they'd used stones, or something. Like old fashioned pavement, around their houses. There would be plants, fountains, statues etc. but no grass, at least, not in the immediate vicinity of the houses.
  11. Those are awesome shots!!! Especially the last two.... And yea, I can believe the BBC would post that. People in the States think Brits are prudes but actually they're quite far from it IME.
  12. No...herbs or oils. Rosemary I think. Borax is used in forge welding.
  13. ROTFL you know, I was in the house of someone who smoked pot...and I couldn't smell it. He had his supplies right there, too. I couldn't smell a thing. He said he could, but I couldn't (and I have an oversensitive sense of smell, too.)
  14. As my OWN incense collection has grown considerably (hehe) I got to thinking: what types of incense was used in Roman times? I'm guessing Frankincense and Myrrh were commonplace. What of different herbs, spices, resins? Was it ever used outside of religious practice? (I'm aware that incense was burned as an offering, but was it used in other ways as well?)
  15. As strange as this sounds, it's actually logical. Urine does contain something which neutralizes the poison from insect bites (and jellyfish stings!!!) Ammonia is more commonly used for that now though. You know, I had thought of vinegar. I haven't seen its use mentioned anywhere though, it DOES make sense. Vinegar is commonly used to remove pet stains from carpets, too. Or at least, to remove the odor. Vinegar mixed with various herbs does even better! (though I can't remember off the top of my head WHAT it was that my mom mixed with her vinegar. I just know it wasn't baking soda! )
  16. Yuck, but apparently it worked. I do wonder how they got the smell out once the clothes were clean? Or else they didn't mind the smell... Urine is actually sterile (provided there's not something else in it). It's uric acid. I don't know for sure, but it could have antibacterial properties as well.
  17. Beautiful!!! Does anyone know what the symbols between the letters in the last line are?
  18. That makes sense. The courts would also be better, I would think, as they were 'specialized' to a particular area, therefore, the judge would be experienced in that sort of case.
  19. Does anyone happen to know the reason why there were so many of these courts? It would seem that one or two would be sufficient (in other words, why couldn't one court handle more than one type of case?)
  20. Ah. I'm running ZoneAlarm Firewall, Adaware 2007 anti-spyware, and AVG anti-virus. I rarely use my Windows search for ANYTHING. I might use it like once a month LOL. I like the 'scratchpad' gadget on Google Desktop.
  21. ROTFL Yep, I knew, you couldn't resist. You never can, can you? But no, it's just Josie. That's what she told me her name was, anyway. Electronics behave better if you name them properly.
  22. I did see my fuzzball on webcam. We talked for like an hour or so LOL. I will have a good day tomorrow. I'm getting used to this keyboard and touchpad. It's not so bad when I have the thing at the right level/angle. Unlike what some people say, it's really not hot at all. The bottom is only a little warm. And the fan is not loud, although the speakers aren't great, they're not bad either. I have a beanbag chair and a laptop. No more debating between Simpsons and blogging.
  23. MY NEW LAPTOP IS HERE!!!! Her name is Josie. I had to practically chase the mailman to get her but she's HERE!!!! I spent a few frustrating hours getting her set up, but now I'm laying on the couch watching TV and posting blogs like a good little lazy techie. It took a little while, but I'm getting used to the keyboard and touchpad and I LOVE IT!!!!! :D :D Now if only Kitten would get on so I can bug him on webcam. Tomorrow is Friday. ME SO HAPPY!!! I didn't think I would, but I love the Google desktop. I was trying to figure out how to turn the damn thing off when I realized "hey I kinda like this" so I started playing with it. It's really neat! I put the scratchpad gadget on mine. Purdy!!!
