Question to Primus Pilus, based on all the evidence that you have seen, what is your personal view on the tunic colours and how do you come to that conclusion.

I am certainly not an expert on tunic colours, but I always assumed they were red. They are in any pictures I have ever seen. But after reading all this it does make sense that there may have been different colours.

Yes it is very interesting, does anyone else have any information on this subject that they would like to share with us. Oh by the way, Len Morgan is very informative and he is one of the people that gave me my original information!!!

My knowledge is the Imperial Legionaries wore a red tunic, but that is probably way to simple.

As for the Republican Legionaries my guess would be the Hastati and Velites in white(since it was cheaper), Principes maybe in white, or maybe a blue or green, with the Triarii of course in red, since it was the most expensive, and another way for the triarii to show off his wealth.
