My favorite article about food, diets and health by Michael Pollan
http://www.nytimes.c...itionism.t.html
with the conclusion - Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

In a rebranding effort the good doers have replaced the name Somalia with the expression the Horn of Africa because people are tired of the problems that this libertarian dreamland has and brings to others since 1991 like pirates, the shabab etc. More then drought the problems are social/political and they are now exporting them together with the refugees like Rwanda did for Eastern Congo 15 years ago.

Alien invasion films are very popular now. After two movies recently targeted Los Angeles (I thought all disasters must happen to New York !?!) now there is a TV series - Falling Skies. Not surprisingly giving how things in entertainment changed in the last years, the TV series is better then the feature films and lists more famous people (Spielberg) But better then those awful movies does not mean great, the series is too patriotic and religious for me. Still, people who like the idea of a citizen army may enjoy it.

I used to love Kraftwerk at the time when I was listening also to Jarre and Vangelis.

If you start exercising when you feel hungry can you train your body to be afraid to send hunger signals? So the body chooses not to express hunger rather then face exercising

The only thing that could be interesting to watch at the wedding would be if Prince Philip does something crazy.
-
In Romania the Easter is at midnight when most people go to church to light candles and bring them home. Many go to pubs/clubs/parties after midnight, so the city is very alive all night with people going around with lit candles. Another tradition is to tap decorated eggs. The bunny started to become part of the holiday only in the last years and mostly as chocolate. The ears are truly the best part.
It is funny that our media pays attention to the royal wedding. After all we have our own dynasty we don't care about.
They expect 2 billion people to watch the wedding. This points to a Princess Syndrome on a massive scale and it affects also lots of man. Or boys have the Charming Prince syndrome?

I should have done the biannual test in February, but I kept postponing. The problem is that Friday a women, talking on the mobile of course, crossed the road despite the fact it was red for her. I made a hard brake but the car behind me didn't, so now I have to fix my rear bumper. I am not going to do that check up very soon...

A corn dog is a dog with just one horn, like a canine unicorn.
GoC, I don't know why but I don't feel sorry for you about your May job assignment. Have fun in NY and keep on the tourist lane

Winters are usually cold here (and the summers are hot) but this one seems more snowy then usual and because the bad weather starts in november and lasts until march it gets tiresome at some point so if you see the sun tell him to come here too.
-
Outside is snowing like it did all week and I have to dig, again, the car out. Hopefully the battery did not died, again, from the cold, if it did I'm not touching the car until the snow melts and it may be a while.

I did google it
Nice title BTW!

Sadly, I don't believe anymore in the perfect rationality of the majority of human beings and, as a result, in democracy or free market. People do not vote or support decisions based on a thorough analysis of pros and cons but on instinctive reactions sparked by the smile of a politician, the opinions of peers, mass media manipulation, prejudice, etc.
So, for me the political process is nothing else then a massive manipulation with the winner gaining legitimacy and not a rational debate on a certain topic.
Looking at the US health care debate the most shocking aspect for me was how difficult was for a solution to be reached. The Democrats have a legislative majority (for now) and the presidency but it took them 2 years to get here and it's still not over. The comparison with Poland before partition when any noble could veto anything has merits. In a fast moving world the decision process should be quicker. Things like filibusters and the right of any senator to veto some decisions are also very undemocratic.

That's a huge bandage for a finger infection!
Since last summer I have always problems with the nails of my fingers and toes. My wife believes that they are turning in claws...
Get better!

It was strange to see that the World Cup would be organized in countries famed for violent criminality like South Africa and Brazil. I think FIFA wants to offer hooligans a real challenge...

I never got why people can feel guilty about something they never did personally. Is something Western European because in the East is not seen. I liked eastern born Angela Merkel when she publicly proclaimed multiculturalism dead.
I don't have prejudice about the skin color of people but sometimes I do have stereotypes (good or bad) based on my experiences about the culture people belong to. For example after witnessing many times the misogyny of Middle East muslim man I now have a rather low opinion on the lot of them.
Our European heritage is something I am proud off and I like the color of my skin.
