  1. I was among the 20% percent of romanians that voted today, but this low figure it's an indication of the disgust and distrust toward romanian politicians rather then anything against the European Parliament.

Romanian politicians don't want people to vote so they can buy voters. A clear example of this was the election of Elena Basescu in theory an independent candidate but she is the daughter of the President and was supported in reality by a major party (PDL) that provided voters.

Anyway, this first Europe-wide elections provided a boost for far-right parties and a slap for leftist parties that failed to use the economic crisis to their political advantage.

  2. The European Union brought unprecedented peace and prosperity and it's one of the few political ideas that makes sense. The national state was a fiction because nations are not very real and building strong borders cuts across ancient links.

EU it's not an empire and not even a federation.

    I'll go vote later.

  3. I've seen Manowar live sometime ago in Bulgaria in a 3 hours show. Very nice. They played mostly their older songs that are better known and made a DVD. From this show:

I've never heard of Velvet Underground before and from what you linked they sound like a good and innovative rock-and-roll band. I will look around ;) to see if I find more of their music.

  4. Mai mult.

Nightwish is definitely the best known band in this festival line-up but they, unlike Opeth, have come here before.

    I like Within Temptation!

While Evanescence is good, Nirvana's Lithium was revolutionary. This and "Smells like teen sprits" were the death blow for hair bands and heavy metal and the beginning of a new style in rock. It is funny to see today's media calling emo music depressing while nobody said anything when we were listening to Nirvana that was far worse.

  5. There are 2 types of modern art.

The first it's the business of decorating homes and hotels with pleasing unoriginal paintings mass produced especially in China and India.

The other it's the production of crazy installations, that FV described so well above, in the hope of making some money and fame.

Worse then modern art it's university art education. It is ridiculous to imagine that someone will be a more original artist if he is taught about art and forced to conform by some short minded teachers.

I know one of this teachers and he made a good living by making flattering paintings of communist leaders and now in an effort to be original he paints only with black paint and makes collages with photos of nude women in provocative positions.

I think FV was ironic above.

  6. You caught me...

Did racism end or just the positions were changed like in Rhodesia? Western media would never dare to criticize saint Mandela (another communist saint, they had many), but for me the hero was de Klerk that gave up the power to terrorists (even if the terrorists had a point).

The trend is visible since some time and it will be a surprise for me to go the other way (democracy and human rights are after all inventions of white colonialist imperialists) but South Africa it's a large, rich, sophisticated and diverse country that could make a surprise.

    Do you like Ces

  7. Caldrail, at least you can not blame yourself like I do. I throw away a well paid and safe job in the government and I kept my money in a real estate that it's now worthless. Not to mention my love life...

The good part is that life in this shit hole I live in was always hard so I'm used with it. Even prosperity sucked. You finally buy a car, but everybody else does and traffic it's a mess.

This last Metallica album that I'm listening now makes me feel much better.

  8. Lasairian it's a beautiful fish with a fancy name. I have his blue brother in a tank right behind me.

BTW what size it's that tank? It looks really small. Sometime ago I had kept a female in a small tank and she developed a nasty fin rot from the toxic waste in the water. I cured her but she never looked that good again.

The betta that I have now has his own little kingdom with 30 l of water and a plant (microsorum) in which he sleeps. Gravel and a micro filter will be added soon and later some light and if the plants go well maybe some shrimps.

A betta can do well in 10 l of water but as I wanted to add a filter to reduce the cleaning and the water change it was to little.
