    Code Of Conduct For Re-enactors

roman re-enacting isnt well organized yet. american civil war re-enacting has a huge organization call the ANV for confederate re-enactors on the east coast. they set regulations and solve problems that occur. i estimate less than 1,000 roman re-enactors in the USA but with the civil war, there are easily 150,000+. once rome becomes more popular, they will make a "union"

  8. cant march 55 miles in 1 day. if you started at 6 am and ended at 6 pm, thats 12 hours and thats moving at 4.5 miles per hour whereas marching 25 miles in that same period is 2.1 miles per hour. more than double their speed. with the primitive shoes, roads and living off marching rations. physically impossible. less to carry means less perpared. besides, what would you give up? your armor? food? clothing/accessories? all nesecities. a 6 to 8 hour march is rather short. in the middle of summer, the sun rises at around 7 or so and sets close to 9 pm. if leaving at 6:30 and ending 6 hours later is 12:30 which leaves 9 hours. probably more of an 8-10 hour march.

    My reenactment

we put all our heavy guns to guard the bridge and all the bolt actions in the corn field across the way. we ambushed a german group and executed them andthen came from behind the germans to kill them all. a picture of the 11th panzers german squad of troops and a dead guy alongside the house. thats me to the left and somebody threw a smoke bomb. soldier aiming from around a chimney thats me again peeking out to see if anybody was there. i have my gun low becuase if i stick it out first then somebody could grab it our unit on the porch of the house we stayed at for this event. im the top left 2 dead guys and a smoke bomb in the background. Edit: added actual pictures to post - Moon

i think the centurion is using a stick as a sword to drill the men. For our regiment, out first sergeant uses a stick with a bunch of carvings that he put in it. he uses that instead of a gun sometimes because a gun is too cumbersome and carrying a stick into battle looks so cool. The centurion is probably using it for fun, so his arm dont get tired holding up a sword, or because he doesnt want to take an eye out.

    Rome Total War

game is too easy on hard. very hard offers a pretty good challenge but i would have liked to see the battles balanced more.

    My reenactment

It was fantastic. Over 9000 reenactors showed up and we fought along a 2 mile stretch of fields, woods, camps and hills. This was the 140th anniversary of the battle of cedar creek. The north actually won that battle so we did it just like it was back then. We pushed the north back and nearly won until another union division came up and chased us away. Heres the account; we we're chasing the yankees up a little hill and there was a giant hill behind that from which we could only see the top of it from the bottom of the little hill and so we go over the little hill and we reform at the top to shoot and midway up the big hill there was 6 canons pointed at the 3 battalions that went up the hill and thay all fired at once. We would have actually been slaughtered right there if it was a real battle but we went on to push them back behind a house and thru a river bed where they brought up a gigantic line of troops from behind their 2nd line of canons which was where we ran like hell to get away and we lost eventually. But the bad thing about these large scale battles is that injuries are alot more frequent. I saw about 10 ambulences come to our camp and our side of the battlefield. 2 that i know and saw was an artilleryman tripped and his canon rolled down the hill over his ankle and the other guy fell into a fire. I'll dig up some pictures today or tomorrow to post on here.

    Roman Historical Fiction

I've read Simon Scarrow and Conn Iggulden. Simon has the under the eagle 5 book series and Conn has the Emperor series of 2 books so far. Emperor wasnt really that greatly written but it was ok i guess. under the eagle is pretty neat. i liked it. however its hard to get his books here in america. they are coming here 4 years after they have been written in england.

    My reenactment

theres a dead period right now. no reenactments scheduled until the 2nd week in october. that one will be a big one though. its the 140th anniversary of cedar creek so theres 15,000 people expected along with 75 canons.
  22. http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/ns/news/science.jsp A group of European-led astronomers has made a photograph of what appears to be a planet orbiting another star. If so, it would be the first confirmed picture of a world beyond our solar system.

    My reenactment

yeah yeah, i got it. by the way, this weekend is another small living history for the gettysburg college students and we get to stay on the battlefield at spangler springs. this is very rare because you need special permission from the parks department to do any kind of action on the battlefield.
