I'm sure there is a section or clipings of how a funeral happens but i kind of need it all in one nice chunk. I haev listed the scenario and some info (i don't know if its of any worth but it might help in anyones explanation).
Scenario: 2nd century bc (about 150 ish)
Senator has died
He is wealthy
Has a wife and one parent (no siblings)
He is a fictitious character but i have modelled him on 'real' romans
He is obese by our terminology
a step by step guide would be great bt anything at all would be much appreciated.

So how far can a roman walk or march. I've heard near 30 miles in a legion in one day.
How far would a legion that isn't in a rush, march in one day?
How far would a legion march if they were needed immediatly?
How much does terrain effect marching (obviously a lot), are ttheir aspects of agincourt somewhere in roman history?
Specific example: How many days would it take to get from Rome to the Apennines (en route to Ariminum)?
The how many days to go right through them?
If anyone answers thank you

If you want to get from Rome to Ariminum in the late Republic, you would take the Via Flaminia, which begins in Rome (of course) and ends in Ariminum. Bill Thayer provides a virtual road trip down the Via Flaminia--well worth visiting his site if you're not up for the journey yourself.
i hate to doubt you MPC because you usually are impeccably accurate but the Google map route doesn't take the via flamina, the image you show takes the via salaria I think?
Was the via salaria built before the 2nd century bc and was it the best route to go from Rome to Ariminum via Ancona?

I apologise for the questions that have been asked before ... etc
Every question applies to mid 2nd century bc ... etc
So here goes
What is the plural of Scutum?
How would a roman get from Rome to Ariminum via Ancona?
How was 'luggage' carried - on a mule?
What was in this 'luggage'?
Were their outpost or something like that situated along a road?
Was their a police force, legions were levied so who kept the peace?
How far could someone walk?
Did the Romans have a north, south, east and west?
Everything 2nd century bc
Thanks in advance

Were some legions considered elite, like the tenth? werern't they boasted in the media by Caesar?
And, would a legion get mentioned for bravery? That way all of the men were mentioned.
Would bravery on the field connote a promotion as a reward?
bit off topic, sorry

Salve
I have heard that the landscape of North Africa in Classical times was completely different from what it is now. Apparently it was a heavily forested area, and that included the Sahara itself. Apparently the heavy deforestation is what caused the barren landscape you see now in places like Cyrenaica and the Tunisian coast. I have never been able to get any independent confirmation on this so I wonder if fellow forum members have any input on this subject?
I assume because there were less people less wood would (no pun intended) be needed. I still expect that Cyrenaica would have suffered its greatest stage of deforestation wouldn't have caused such a desolate landscape. The Sahara was smaller but was never a forested area.

Does anyone have a time machine (if so i could tell The Romans to go on a small campaign to Perth that would mean you could come here)?
Or a spare few thousand pounds?
Seriously though! I miss out!
To Klingan: could you pick me up in your longboat en route
Oh well, mention me.

Best few in my view for CS would be:
Audaces Fortuna Iuvat
Fortune Favours the Brave or words to that gist/effect
Bella, Horrida Bella
Wars Horrid/Horrible Wars
Anything PP says is usually sound advice
Maybe something simple like Gladius or Pugio.

Ridiculous!
Next they'll say a bunch of people talking about a bunch of dead romans is weird.
Harry Potter is scary though. Radcliffe's voice still hasn't broke, that's scary.

I have yet to vote, so if i was to be suitably *cough*bribed*end cough* coerced into voting. I am sure I could sway the boat. Confused enough?

Could I make a suggestion?
You don't have to take notice of it but could the Gloria Exercitus section be split in two or three or whatever, eg Republican and Imperial like the Imperium Romanorum section. Any thoughts?

in Templum Romae - Temple of Rome
Posted
Is it true that a type of urn or something was placed half-buried in th eground and wine was poured in as akind of offering? If not i don't know where i got that from.
Were there tombstones? What did they say?
Was the body enclosed in a coffin?
Were there speeches at the funeral?
Who could attend?
Who was prayed to?
