  1. I have a question: When the Roman encountered the Macedonians on the field of battle, how did they defeat the Macedonian's fourteen-foot sarissas? I mean, any legionnary would get impaled if he tried to advance frontally on the Phalanx, so how did the Romans overcome the long reach of the Macedonians?
  2. I voted for "Military Affairs." I was facinated how the Romans became masters of the Ancient World, how their brave legionnaries slashed through ranks of barbarians to establish law and order.
  3. According to the Book of Bevin Alexander: "How Wars are won; The Thirteen Rules of War", and in many encyclopedias, The Sarmations were a pugnacious people who evicted the scythians from the region north of the black sea. They developed the heavy horseman, who was the ancestor of knight on horseback.
  4. At least Clive Owen did Arthur's character justice in the film. Why did the Anglo-saxons have crossbows in that era? I though it came only in the middle ages.
  5. Also, what did byzantine catapharacts look like? Did the Footsoldiers of Byzantine armies wear the armour of the Western Roman Legionaries?
  6. How about a handbook about the Roman Army, with complete details of their weaponry, clothing, food, the way they fought, and their most famous Battles?
  7. You mean, the collapse of the republic due to the civil wars? Crud. I hope it has some bloody scenes with legionaries slaughtering barbarians.
  8. What did the "checkerboard" formation Of the Roman look like? Could anyone help me by posting a pic on this site?
  9. I think they were positioned in their respective provinces.
  10. In a full scale war, Rome would win. Rome's armies are more expierienced operating in hostile territory than Han dynasty armies were. Legionnaries would cut through the thickest hedge of Han army pikes without difficulty.
  11. I mean: Did the Roman Legions confront the Macedonians head-on, or did they use flanking? How was it that they were able to defeat the sarissas of the Macedonians if their short swords only had short reach?
  12. Yeah, and the persians killed a few greeks with those blades mounted on the chariots
  13. How could Roman Legions defeat the Macedonians if the Macedonians' Sarissas outreached The Legionnaries' short swords? Did they fight a manuever battle, or did they rely on flanking?
  14. I don't think so, I think it was made of plastic
  15. King Arthur was a good movie, although somewhat lacking in big fight scenes. I hoped too see Roman legions in battle, because I can't seem to visualize the Checkerboard formation they had. Alexander is waste of time. There he was portrayed as a homosexual, immature, whinner and a freak. The battle of Gaugamela wasn't good enough; it didn't show the oblique formation and the movie put too much emphasis on his mother. Damn Troy is a superb movie. I just wish the Greeks fought better. I used to think they were invincible before the romans came and assimilated their culture.
  16. Religion is not bad if it does not interfere with the working of state. Once it does, it becomes a headache to society.
  17. kING Arthur wasnt a roman he was a pagan.that movie was a load of crap!!!!!!! Hey, I said he was a Sarmatian knight, I did not say he was a Roman. He may have bee a pagan, but he was a good pagan who believed salvation could be attained through man's grace.
  18. Sorry, I have none. How about the King Arthur Movie Homepage. Arthur Castus was a sarmatian, right?
  19. I think it was caused by oriental cults form within (meaning christianity in its infancy), barbarian armies from without, and stupid emerors and feckless imperial officials.
  20. Hi! I'm Ovid E.D. Llorito of Muntinlupa, Philippines. I am a third year student of a public school. I like the Romans because that's where I got my name. I like Strategy games involving Nations and I play the Romans most of the time. SPQR- the Senate and the People of Rome
  21. I want to learn how to govern the Empire! Please teach me the basics. :sniper:
  22. I think it's challenging at best and a waste of currency at worst. It's Hard to rule such a big stretch of land. If the Roman Empire would be revived, it would be finished as soon as it started.
  23. I prefer Brittania, it being the northern boundary of the Empire and the place where Sarmatian Knights like Arthur Castus (King Arthur) was stationed. :sniper:
  24. As for me, there is no greatest contribution. They all did well, especially in the way their Legions fought. I admire them for that. But to be honest, I think they did well in law and political organization. :sniper:
