The roman armour was called 'lorica segmenta' this explains itself, the segment which together made the lorica (body armour). Hope this helps. The latin name for the helmet was galea, i can't find any more on that though.
The tenth legion was the best. They followed Julius CAesar through thick and thin, proving they had amazing morale and they also conquered Gaul with him. They were relatively new though. The Prima Genia (first born) under Marius were amazing also!
Julius Caesar was the best general of all time, but, Marius was the one who started the reform and some credit must go to him, Julius Caesar conquered the whole of Gaul and became dictator for life and defeated Pompey another military genius!
