  1. Well, I don't have the BI version of it. Although the site for the 1.2 patch for Total Realism is not working. I heard they added the 6.2 addon. Are there any other free instillation for people who only have Rome Total War.
  2. Do you need the Rome TotalWar: Barbarian Invasion in order to use it? By the way I checked the site, they seem to be down.
  3. The thing about Greek technology is how they figured things out. They applied the knowledge and made things 2,000 years ahead of their time. The more I think about it the more I realize this is not as hard as people think it is. How they made Greek fire, amazing balastics, discovered every property of science, and maybe even made a computer. If back then Nobel handed out an award to the science department it would go to ancient Greece, no doubt.
  4. I remember the movie The Last Samurai, it never seemed to end. I think it is historical fiction but I remember the Italian movie Life is Beautiful. I'm not very emotional, but that ending really got me.
  5. That guy behind her looks angry.
  6. Did anyone check out Rameses's Blue Jays? Good news and bad news for Gaius Octavius: Good- The Red Sox won't make it to the playoffs. Bad- Neither will the Yanks! Come on Vernon Wells and co!
  7. If we're the future how come many people plan our demise?
  8. Thanks Tobias, you seem well informed. Here is the Battle of Syllaeum.
  9. Hello all, I have been cruising the net for forums and realize that none is as active or friendly as this one. This forum is not only a great place to learn but to comment on daily things. People try to help and everything is under control. It is a well known site and is very acknowledged by scholars. The way people go about things and always seem to get the right answer across. I just had to post something on this because it is a place where everyone can learn about Rome and the ancient world. I thought I would never find a place for study in history since my family and friends discredit it. Here everyone can relate and the home page and forum shows how history is important. I thought I knew history well, but as you know I was introduced to the world. Now, I understand more and more each day and one answer brings up more and more things to research. I really like it here and I hope all of you do. I mean it with all honesty.
  10. Not yet, although I have a feeling I will soon.
  11. As long as there has been innovative technology there has been the Hellenistic empire of Greece. I saw on the history channel they were able to make a handheld flamethrower. Napha would combine with something to produce fire. Can you imagine how deadly that could be? Anymore information on this? Since online and books seem to lack any real knowledge on this. How Rome was able to conquer Greece, is beyond me. If only they applied all of that stuff on the battle field before it was too late.
  12. Where are we going with this?
  13. I agree, boredom is dangerous. One time I was so bored I started to play hockey in my basement. The ball hit the glass, then it fell and broke. Or as Bill Parcell's puts it, "Idle time, is bad time."
  14. If you ask me I think the battle at Tyre was the closest Alexander ever got at defeat. This battle was more difficult than any battle in India he had fought. It was similar to how Caeser created a bridge across the Rhine. Alexander could have raided the area by sea, but wanted to go by land. Even though Phoenicia was on the decline they have a strategic position that is easy to defend. This is interesting to me. I don't think Carthage really acknowledged Phoenicia anymore. They were stronger and by doing that Alexander would be on their heads and doom will set on them. Tyre was still a strong hold that can be defended with relative ease. It's not like Egypt that can't protect itself. Even if it declined it was still a city that needed to be protected. If it had come under Persian control how come it was the Phoenicians that protected it?
  15. I heard that dentistry started in Egypt. However that is a pretty nice find. Whatever it was meant to do it looked like they had succeeded. The skull's condition is downright amazing.
  16. You can say that again! That's actually really good for your first time as you pointed out. How many painting canvasses, or bases have you drawn on?
  17. Argubly one of the hardest areas for Alexander to conquer was the Phoenecian city of Tyre. Not so much the mainland, but the nearly impenitrable harbor town. Alexander was offered surrender by the Tyrians but refused to let him sacrifice at the temple of Melqart. This was something only a native king could do during ceremonies. Furious, Alexander went on to create a mole to breach the defenses of Tyre. He was constantly harassed by ships and needed naval support more than anything. Eventually Tyre could not have held out any longer because of overwhelming forces. The rest of the soldiers were slaughtered as everyone in the city except those in the temple. Later those people would be sacrificed on crosses. In conclusion, if there was a battle that nearly handed Alexander a defeat it was that of Tyre. Something that not even Nebuchanezzar could do, Alexander could. My question to you guys: 1. Do you guys think that it shows how hard it was to conquer Tyre? 2. Do you guys think that it shows how great a general Alexander truly was?
  18. The way they created an empire and brought it to a level that had never been seen before. Taking lands, politics, the Senate, conflicts, infrastructure, etc was amazing. Not to mention Roman engineering, which is unrivaled even today. Basically you name it, they have it just on a better scale.
  19. lol, my fault. Say did you change my preferred name with my actual name?
  20. You know what, I'm not going to comment on this anymore. I'm a Conservative born and a Conservative dead. I don't care about beeing under fire by some of these people out there. So my views have to reflect your's? Sodom means homosexuality and Gomorrah means burning. If you guys fail to see my stance as beeing a Republican than it is your fault. This is who I am and if you have problems with the Republican party you have problems with me. The Democrats were not exactly angels themselves. That's what we need Martina Lewinsky on a postal stamp. See how quickly you attacked tflex, and how many Democrats are so keen on insulting? We're trying to make a point here and if you don't agree don't go off making fun of somebody. The Republicans I bet are keeping in their emotions while you go off ranting about how great your government is. I don't know why you Democrats hate us so much. You think we are no good rotten people who know nothing. That is fine but the old saying, 'How do you know when a Liberal is lying?' 'They are speeking,' certainly applies here. (Shaking my head) Unbelievable.
  21. Ahh, are you judging me? I actually had this lesson not to long ago. I use the King James version of the bible. I guess Sodomy does not mean homosexuality. Suspect what you want but doing so, you're calling me a liar. Care to tell me if he was part of the bourgeoise who had everything and gave nothing or the protelorait who had nothing and gave everything. Of course it has a soul. It does not have a spirit until baptism but they have a soul. Animals have souls and so do unborn children. You think my philosophy is backwards, in actuality it is your's. You have unhidden feelings about the Republican party and I attest the Liberal party. Did you notice Communism does not work? Please I suggest you read Animal Farm. Anyways I heard Exon mobile was making so much money they gave the manager a 400 million dollar raise! People decided to boycott Exon as they should. Not to long ago the Saudi's said they see no reason to change the prices. They think they are reasonable. Venezuala had tons of oil, America should boycott the Saudi oil and go for a more conventional aproach. Madness yes, but we will severely undercut their economy.
  22. Sodom and Gomorrah was burned because of Sodomy and not heeding the word of God. When they were warned about their transgressions, they did'nt care. Sodomy means homosexuality and sex in means thought unthinkable. Abraham wanted to save the city he asked God, "Are there 50 righteous people, 40, 30, 20, 10? Only one righteous person was found and that was his nephew Lot. The Republicans give their money privately while the Democrats make sure to take your money and give it to the poor. Bragging about how they gave money to the poor by means of welfair, humble? Did not God say do not let anyone see your right hand? Did he not say close your door and pray? Isn't the Democratic way closer to Communism? If this is true they believe in an unreligious state. On the other hand Conservative view are that of Puritanical religous state. The church does not force people to give money yet to lend a hand to the people who need it. Privately giving to the poor rather then forced means of welfair. They believe in not only serving the community by money but by help. Many go to third world countires and try to build new houses rather than cough up money by means of government. Is welfair a good means of helping unfortunate people that do not have the luxury of others? Yes, but charity is better by the means of giving out of the goodness of your heart. Not to mention some of the people who have been here for a long period of time who suck the money of hard working people, going to bars thinking they own the land. When my grandfather died, he received little or no medical care and died of cancer. His wife at the time could not pay the amounts of welfair the Canadian Liberal party kept asking for. While not receiving support she was forced to give at a fragile state. She was overly stressed and lost all her hair, unable to abide with the amounts of money the government asked for. In Canada we were promised by the Liberal party that we would not have to pay the amazing amounts of taxes and PST. Now they pay GST, PST, and 15% taxes. So that 8+7+15=30% tax add on other fees for medicare and it is amazing. Last and not least the moral issues of the Democrats by means of relgion are thin if nor non existnat. Homosexuality had become a recurrent theme through the state with the most Democrats California. Boston another haven for Liberals is accepting Sodomy. In Canada, the second annual gay rights parade took place, something the Liberals lobbed for. In my times in '98 the Conservatives never would have allowed such a thing. Now in churches the Liberal party prohibits churches from commenting on the dangers of Sodomy and its evils. Abortion, basically murder in which the bible says, 'thou shall not kill.' This is a precious and innocent infant who was killed by means of killing. If killing a mother while pregnant is considered double murder, what makes killing a baby because the mother wants it that way any different? Can you not put the child up for adoption at the very least? Can you believe this? No, neither can I and yet this is what some of the things the Liberal party stands for.
  23. You guys are all a hundred percent right. The Celtic uprising usually started with one person, and spread to everyone. They had a common goal of breaking away and fighting for pride and their own interests. However when you attack like that you don't give consideration to agriculture, planning, and thinking ahead. Rome on the other hand mapped out their plan and as you said executed it. They made sure that they would defeat Boudicca and her army. The Iceni saw an oppurtunity to escape with victories by overwhelming the Roman armies, but that is what Rome does best. If the formation of the legion is broken up it is easily cut down because of the bulk and protection. If it holds its ranks the unarmed Iceni meaninglessly running into a solid formation will be slaughtered in no time. When fighting the Celts, not only are tactics and deployment important but also mental toughness. Clearly the Iceni had the intelligence to change but probably knew they can't out smart the Romans.
