  1. Yesterday was Friday the 13...where I'm at (America) its generally reguarded as unlucky, but...for some reason it always turns out to be a very good day for me
  2. I think its human nature. When something gets that powerful, it ultimately destroys itself.
  3. But what kind of man would kill his own friend? It was time for change. Caesar saw that.
  4. I recognized Caesar...he looks like the sculpture of him I did in art class (with detail on the hair though). The others i wouldnt have known.
  5. CAESAR!!! I dont understand the position of the legionaries...(are they flying?) but its cool. I wish i could edit pictures like that.
  6. I have IE because it was what came with the computer, lol. I now have AdAware!! and the spyware is off of my computer.
  7. LMAO!!! I'll add more as soon as I find something.
  8. I have ZoneAlarm and Norton. That's it (I've been meaning to beg daddy for a spyware program...)
  9. I can't pretend to know what was going on in Caesar's head. I certainly think that anyone would want to be king, even a teensy bit. I don't know if he would have made this move if he didn't have the other reasons as well. I kind of doubt it. Whatever his reasons, he did alot of good for Rome. It is my belief that, if he had become emporer, he would have made it work. The people loved him for a reason.
  10. The Empire worked out way better than the republic did. There got to be too many people/too much corruption for the republic to last.
  11. I love Caesar. No doubt in my mind that he would've made a great emporer (and that Brutus and Cassius had only their own power in mind when they murdered him)
  12. That's very interesting to me, especially since there was mention of the Cult of Mithras on another forum I frequent... Great work, Ursus!
  13. I actually thought they went from chain mail ::shudders:: to segmenta in the later years. I don't know the exact figures though.
  14. I just found this post now. I'm glad everything made it safely. Ok, why i'm really answering, I want to tell Primus Pilus that that was a great story you should write more!
  15. Wouldn't it be...over the muscle...that the fat was supposed to grow? If they only ate barely, wouldn't they get scurvy? I would expect that they had some fresh vegetables as well (I read somewhere that they did, actually) and a source of protein.
  16. The thing about movies is, they have to make them in modern language, no matter how incorrect it may be. Otherwise, no one would understand without subtitles, and most people seem to hate having to read thier movie lol. BTW the line means "you are da*ned dogs" (I speak German )
  17. I found this a while ago and realized it might be of interest. Roman Army
  18. Didn't it go in cycles? I mean, were humans always really short growing larger? Or were we large-short-back to large again? Is there any archeological evidence of the size of the average Roman?
  19. Limiting the height was a good idea. It wouldn't have prevented fire, but it would have made it easier to control and maybe prevented spreading of it. They didn't have equipment like we do now, so they had to make do... Stone, I would think, would actually be pretty sturdy. Wood would be bad, I could see that.
  20. I've gotten a few emails like that. I've also gotten things along the lines of "I am a poor orphan in Liberia. My brothers and sisters as well as my parents died of (insert atrocious sounding disease here). My whole village is in ruins, I've barely enough to eat and am in danger of losing my arm to (insert atrocious sounding disease here) Please help me. Only you can help me. Please send (insert rediculous amount of money) to (offshore bank account on weird island in the pacific). Do people really fall for that?
  21. That link is interesting Ursus. I haven't seen information of the kind anywhere else (although I would agree that they didn't die as often as is usually thought, and that they recieved the best treatment at the ludi) I had never heard of them throwing down thier weapons and fighting each other hand-to-hand. All of the writings/pictures i've seen showed that the fights obviously ended "by the sword" as it were.
  22. haha or maybe they just thought the Romans would think them mad and not know what to do...certain tribes also painted themselves blue with woad. I don't know when it was first used, but the tetsudo formation to me seems impractical. For short periods it would work, but one would think that the soldiers would a. wear out very quickly and b. not be able to see very well...
