  1. I'm not for abolishing the military alltogether...I believe we need a standing army to properly defend ourselves (because even if we have reserves...if there is no standing army and war breaks out it would be practically impossible to call everyone up, train them, and deploy them in time) However I think the military spends alot of money that does not need to be spent (well the government in general does) and that could and should be changed.
  2. ::chokes Onasander:: Brutus was a traitor! but...that's your opinion and you are entitled to it
  3. OK, this is *probably* a dumb question but...did "equestrian" back then have anything to do with horses like it does today?
  4. hmm, ok. I don't know where there are any churches like that around here though (not that I ever really paid much attention)
  5. I've (gasp!) never seen the movie Gladiator, so I couldn't notice that. But I did notice how thier armor was all wrong alot of the time, and what was with the spikes? Since when do Romans of any type where spikes? Was Caesar's the Roman Punk Generation or something?
  6. LOL yea. I like the gladiators though. Although I was picking out all the horrible inaccuracies in their armor and such.
  7. And what was with those "centurions" they sent after them? I mean, first off (and most obviously) their armor was all wrong. More importantly, thats NOT what centurions did. The would have been back training/leading their respective centuries and NOT hunting down an escaped "emporer".
  8. I don't know if I'll watch next week. I don't like the way the story is turning out so I can't even watch it for that happilly (I'm a hopeless romantic. Pisces, ya know? )
  9. by-the-sword....i've never heard of it but it may have some thing's I've been looking for Thanks, Segestan!
  10. Ask someone you know from a reinactment group.
  11. hm...you know, I don't know much about how to tell the quality of weapons online so all I can really say is OOO, PRETTEEE. I have heard great things about www.museumreplicas.com though. They are kind of expensive compared to Ebay, but good quality is worth it IMO. The only thing is, I cannot tell you personally about their stuff because I've never bought any of it.
  12. PRETTEEE!! Seriously, though, I honestly can't figure out how, with all of those maze like things in the Coliseum, it was possible 1) to have enough room for fights and 2) for the audience to see them.
  13. The Spartans...well the elder Spartans would take on young Spartan "students" and...I'm not sure how to put this lightly, but they believed that they could "inject" knowledge into the students by homosexual acts (use your imagination on where they were injecting it ) the Athenians looked down on this and so they never actually penetrated their...companions.
  14. no, its a six hour thing, the first one was 2 hour special so next week is the last.
  15. High school i assume? One thing you have to remember about speeches, is it absolutely has to make sense (in writing anyway. I always just had phrase notes and just "wung it") because the audience can't go back and reread it. (heh I always manage to screw up my speeches...worse so if I have to try to memorize. Stage fright gets me every time )
  16. Hmm...if you don't mind my criticism, it doesn't make sense as a sentence. That could easily be fixed if it were reworded slightly. perhaps: "The Roman empire, weakened by its political degradation and unavailing war efforts, would again be fighting its spoils of war. This time it was Spartacus...a thracian gladiator." or soemthing to that effect (I think it's easier to follow. I had to reread your sentence several times before i figured out what you were saying) It seems pretty good historically, but there are others more apt than I to make that judgement. Maybe it would help if you would tell us what kind of speech this was?
  17. Ok, NEXT WEEK is the last one...I thought it was this week....and YEA, Octavian is miraculously brought back to life. RIIIIIGHT. lol
  18. Tonight is the last episode...if they kill off Tyrannus i'm gonna choke 'em! Lol.
  19. I noticed that there are alot of companies named "Arkham" (a publishing company most notably) and I do wonder if ABC wasn't paid to put that in there... Actually, I think "Arkham" was their attempt at a ludis, and the weird bald guy with the spiked flails was supposed to be the lanista, but they didn't quite make it. as always, they decided they would make it *interesting*
  20. vegetarian? Bah, we have canines for a reason
  21. Actually so did I. (I edited my post after I saw what other's had written and realized I must have missed something) (not that there is any problem with it if you were)
  22. ok, my comp won't let me see the video well.
