-
actually I did eat some the other week-out of curiosity
-
Is it a good likeness?
-
OH no-this was a temporary pic!
-
I like the babe and her outfit, but would John Knox approve?
Great pics.
Is that the cast iron bridge?
1. no Knox would have not approved ..at all, but I think shes cute.
2. you refer to the forth rail bridge GO?
-
whomsoever gave the 5 star rating to that-thank you , cos that was a difficult shot on reflective glass!
-
yes that hand on hip , direct eye contact stoop is a bit girly. And those chaps behind are whispering about them as well.
-
How about:
You know Longinus, this new helmet really accentuates your pretty mouth...
yet more effeminacy!
-
The boar is certainly a popular ancient motif-wild pigs being very dangerous critters.
Good start with the captions there-drawing attention to the effeminate nature of the decadent east...
I thought " You know , since I got this helmet I keep getting terrible migraines"
-
Why is it no photography?
Totally forbidden anywhere in the building! Presume they dont want anyone a. "casing the joint" and 2. causing damage to photosensitive items . In fairness she didnt see the notices till after taking the photo.
-
no its not a chicken ..looks a bit gryphon like to me ..but id still feel silly wearing it.On the other hand the chap on the left has a nice selection of assorted blooms on his helmet, handy for startling the Gauls I suppose...
-
Lost Warrior-if you revisit this...these are lift keys...you lift up the mechanism , rather than turn.
-
yes I did -in reply to the post attached to the second shot! This is very good for anyone unfamiliar with the habit of the parasite.

Which part of the tree?
My zoom won't do much good for a real closeup of the mistletoe, it's pretty high up there.
And leaves are coming out fast!
The mistletoe itself if at all possible. Its very rare here and it would be good to get a shot for the Herbal gallery given the significance of the plant and the ceremonial involved.

that being the link to a botanical plate and some druidic info in my Herbal Gallery

very , very interesting-can you provide any closeup shots at all?
-
Look at all the water. That really isn't good for preservation. It's amazing how Hadrian's Wall has withstood the British weathering.
1 minute later I was driven off site by some very painful hail. The plentiful water is a significant reason for the siting of the defences in this area
-
You let that into your home? Arent you afraid?
-
Quite cool
Thank you. Freezing more like. Note please that the Mithraium is kept small purposefuly, the sense of claustrophobia is alleged to be intimate with the cult, if as some say this involves the "burial" (literally) of the initiate followed by re-birth to the light . The internal colour scheme is suggested to have been deep blood red and yellow ochre, with elaborate fresco motifs.

Who are these people and where are they?
I didnt see your post Gaius! They are a-Viking re-enactors at an a-Viking festival in the village of Burnsall in North Yorkshire. There was very little pillaging, the "who has the best beard and whiskers " contest was the fiercest encounter other than the swordplay (and axe play if you could call it that).

Pertinax - did you ever see that 80s series of Robin Hood, Clannad soundtrack. Robin was characterised as a devotee of Herne ?
Yes I did , and quite well done to. At first the "merry men" were not tooo keen on Robin as the Chosen of Hern.
Most interesting then that Silvanus is a deity of the Roman devotees of the hunt.
-
Awesome plant. I saw the plant which looks like this (I'm not sure that it was the same, I'll try to find my picture). Maybe Pertinax could say what it was.
I have a reasonable chance with indigenous european plants.
-
excellent-not so rare here ,but I only have video footage so we cant compare markings. What a great shot.
-
Oh no ! The Bushy Ears are back!
-
Nope, too large... with the plant I'm trying to identify the whole cluster is probably only an inch long!
check my pyramidal orchid photo (Orchis Mas)
