  1. Ah, the homeland of many illustrious sons and daughters, not the least of them being Neilus Diamondus! All roads may lead to Rome, but "Brooklyn Roads" leads to fond memories. **************************************** Honorius, you run a prosperous moving business, for Romans relocating to other areas of the Empire. Zosius Schlepperus slarc oehspjo ezolp -ajloo +iusus schlepper: one who drags around other people's stuff for a living. **************************************** DecimusCaesar, you are a freedman who was adopted into the Fadius gens, due to a bit of luck and a lot of prayer. D. Fadianus Davenus dfadyd niaow nsaev -owy +uus daven: "to pray". ***************************************** Potitus Schnorerus, perhaps I should've given you an additional cognomen of "Shnozus". **************************************** Pantagathus, you run a catering business, for patricians who are too cheap to throw an extravagent, Fellini-esque feast, but don't mind spending a few denarii for a little nash. Seius Nashus Anes Nsigigh -ggin +usus -- Nepiana Challa (changed my name because my familia sold the deli and bought a bakery) sounds like fun
  2. slarc oehspjo ezolp edit:cant wait!! and thanks again Nepilla!!

    Coming Out

well the past year has seen many changes in my life. only the other week i finally came out to my parents about my sexuality.. i had told them a year ago that i thought i was but they came back witht he usual 'you dont know till your older' stuff. But when i told my parents the other week i got a rather unwelcome reply, my father looked rather sad, disapointed and ashamed so i started to get really pissed off because they always told me if i did turn out to be 'gay' they wouldnt care but they obviously did.. so ever since the day i told them their entire attitude towards me has changed they rarely show compassion and barely speak to me.. arguments between me and my parents have escalated and occur almost daily..even my entire school knows now i can just imagine them gossiping about it (catholic school).. but with the bad come the good i spose i am having more fun with my friends nowadays and kind of have a social life again... anyway i also have my exams coming up not a great time... but on a good note 1453 i must say is an extremely detailed book and im pretty happy with it thanks again UNRV!!
  8. does anyone know how large the Iconstasis in Hagia Sophia was? if there are dimensions to it or if the size is even mentioned?
  9. from the picture in Roger Crowleys book it doesnt look to large but he does say and i quote "The great chain with its Eighteen-inch links..." but then again corrosion and the damage of 'time' on the chain has made it the links alot smaller
  10. i just read in Roger Crowley's '1453' that some pieces of the chain are still lying around in the city of Istanbul today
  11. I dont think Pompeii was that unique.. correct me if im wrong
  12. Aegyptus beat me to it atm im reading Roger Crowleys 1453 and he does mention that the few remaining outposts outside of Constantinople were garrisoned ones such as selymbria perhaps they believe constantinople impregnable.. and that they still believe that the city was divinley protected?
  13. he spent tons of money on buying large tracts of land as somebody already said... i dont think him jumping on crocs was because he wanted to be a star.. he had been doing it for an extremely long time before coming to fame anyway. it is a sad day though.. i hope his daughter carries on his work oh welll... he died doing what he liked best
  14. milan was the western capital for a while.... about monuments in Ravenna im not sure if there are many but i know there are a few churchs with magnificent mosaics of Justinian and Theodora with their entourage's
  15. i voted for Ravenna. though i much prefer Constantinople id like to learn more about the layout of Ravenna and stuff like that u should add milan btw
  16. He was a pagan for most of his life until his vision, though he still remained pagan(for political reasons) until shortly before his death, he was converted and baptised into Christianity. However for most of his life, you betcha he acted more like a Christian than a pagan, as close as you get. Another thing, you can say for all of his lfie, he was a Christian thanks to his Christian mother Theodora and he was also like his father, tolerating Christians. So his life was essentially connected with Christianity, especially when you live in the Eastern half of the Empire alot. Constantine had his wife and son crispus murdered not very christian is it Also i thought his mother was called Helena not Theodora.. anyway Constantine was a pagan and like FVC said mainly for political reasons
  17. thanks heaps guys!! im so happy thanku!!! omg UNRV U ARE THE BEST
  18. yay!! go NSW!!! up the blues!!
  19. count me in 2 id be happy with any of them.
  20. with the situation of the west cheap barbarians was the better choice. imho
  21. i guess the army wasnt too appealing. plus germans were cheaper to use i believe...and the west was already barbarised by the amount of tribes that had already settled in the provinces..
  22. to raise a roman army against the vandals?? Majorian did but his fleet got devastated by a suprise attack and for soem reason i have a tiny feeling that avitus tried aswell but thats probably wrong
  23. the east had its own problems as Kosmo said but remember that Leo I tried to have his own choice Julius Nepos placed on the Western throne. Also troops were sent to Ravenna to protect Honorius.. and a number of expeditions were launched to retake africa.. like basiliscus' one..
  24. i still use internet explorer >< is firefox really that good?? edit:spelling
