Had I existed in Roman times and had my pick of positions, I'd like to be part of the early heavy cavalry that evolved into Byzantine Cataphracts. Otherwise, it is likely I'd likely be in the velite. Hadrian Caesar Posted May 5, 2007 Report Share Posted May 5, 2007 Cavalry all the way. Much better to ride along beside the poor infnatry, whose muddy feet hurt from marching all day. Although the wage wasn't exactly exceptional by comparison to legionary standards in the army's earlier years, cavalry auxilia did have its highlights; there's nothing more exciting than a charge on horseback!
