  1. I agree that they would have worshipped Mars, not Ares. (Mars and Ares seem alike on the surface but are in actuality very different if you actually look into the mythology anyway. ) and of COURSE one of the many names of Jupiter...though I cannot remember which one exactly (possibly Juppiter Optimus Maximus but I doubt it). There was also Mithra... As for a "code" I do think there was something...but I don't think it was a written out code. I think it was a sort of unspoken thing, more along the lines of tradition than anything else. Everyone followed it, but it wasn't something that was written out or even discussed much (though it may have been discussed). Similar to the Greek Arete, but more Roman in philosophy and principle.
  2. I only clicked on this because I couldn't figure out what it was. I still don't know what it is, but I like it Did you draw this yourself? The shading and depth is awesome and I love the medium.
  3. Titration isn't nearly as bad as some of the things....oh...like...electron configuration! (you know, Ca is 1s2, 2s2, 2p6, 3s2, 3p6, 4s2 ) which isn't so bad until you get into hybridization...oy! I miss biology!! ::cry::
  4. I know Julius Caesar is not an emporer (well...Imperator actaully) but I would love to meet him ::sheds tears of appreciation:: Of the emporers I would have to say Caligula. I want to know if he's really as insane as I am
  5. I actually have an 83% in AP Chem right now! That's for the end of the marking period (meaning, that at least that will be on my report card. I say "at least" because I'm almost positive there are some extra credit points in there which have not been added in yet.) I was expecting like...a 70-something. But 83?? YEEEE!! ::dances:: EIGHTY-THREE! EIGHTY-THREE! EIGHTY-THREE! (ok, I'm done now, lol.)
  6. If I were a religious figure of some sort I would be honoring Jupiter
  7. Yea...they have several acres of forest in the back...thats the endless mountains for you. I live directly in town and theres still a whole lotta nothing up here.
  8. Hmm...perhaps they simply stepped on/over those who could not get up or drag themselves off the field untill the battle was over. Or maybe they took a break from fighting (both sides) to get food and water, and to care for their dead and wounded. Actually, it seems likely that at some point in history, both scenarios occurred, though the whens and wheres remains a mystery, to me at least.
  9. I suppose. I guess it's also possible that people were smaller in those days...and could fit on the shield better
  10. Yea I know (in Sparta they believed that if you didn't come home with your sheild, you must have fled and they basically were outcast from society, just short of exile). I'm asking how they managed to carry the person on the shield. I mean, with a round sheild especially, it seems very difficult, almost impossible. Highly impractical at best.
  11. Archers? I doubt it. The archers were specialized. Missing fingers doesn't mean you can't weild a sword (unless, of course, you're missing all of them)
  12. Wow hello that was an excellent first post I hope to see more of them. Some men in had started cutting off their own fingers to avoid military service. Because of this, in later years the legions started accepting men with missing fingers >.>
  13. In Greece (and several other places) the soldiers would carry their dead and wounded home on their shields. ("come home WITH your sheild, or ON it."). However this confuses me when it comes to the Greeks, because they had round shields. How did the men fit? It must have been a very uncomfortable ride...and it seems terribly impractical.
  14. But thats no fun! I love to torment them. Me: "there not home" them: "well when would be a good time to call back?" me: "any time after the apocalypse would be great" ...once someone asked if I planned to go up or down... Mail order meat place: me: "do you carry all of the major varieties or road kill?" them: "um....no we don't" me: "well do you have possum?" them: "we can give you a free window estimate while we're in the area" me: "oh, no thanks, we don't have any windows. them: "what?" me: "we live underground. we don't have any windows." them: o_O
  15. ::snickers:: I still love the "I'm a poor orphan in {some country you never heard of} only YOU can help me! Please send {rediculous amount of money} to {offshore bank account on weird island you never heard of} to save me and my family." These scams are kind of funny when I get them in my email...I usually get a laugh at them before I delete them. Some of them sound suspiciously like drug dealings or something though...
  16. Some things you DO need to validate through email, but that is done pretty much immediately after you sign up for it (for example AIM) and then you should never get another such email from them. I get those account emails from places I've never heard of...and I KNOW I don't have an account to validate Those "please send $10,000 to an offshore bank account" emails still crack me up
  17. Basic Choral music um...lets see "Contate Domino" (really difficult song) "Jubilate Deo" (really fun song) "What Child is this?" "the Little Lamb" (annoying, but kind of fun), "Oh Holy Night", "Tocata of Praise" (difficult, but really fun to sing) and "Creator God" (one of my favs) and some others that I can't think of at the moment. We do some warm up songs and such...I don't know if we'll sing them in the concert. I know we were working on Fauna Conzona but I'm not sure if we are still doing that one or not.
  18. It was a while ago I posted that. It works fine now. I don't know what's going on with the groups...somehow now I'm "equestrian" when I was "citizen" and there's more groups...hmm...
  19. Not that I know of. There may have been eunuch slaves, but somehow I doubt it (seems to me I saw that on a movie, but it is one known for historical inaccuracy (please don't make me name which one lol) and I've never heard of it anywhere else)
  20. Actually, that doesn't seem like it would be nearly as painful as some of the other things, such as being flayed to death.
  21. As long as it isn't raw, it's probably not THAT bad...lol theoretically speaking it's no worse than tripe (which alot of people seem to like) or liver (which I happen to love) or fish eggs ::licks her lips:: Alot of the torture methods that have been used throughout history (and I'm sure Romans used them as well) are worse than the actual executions (because you stay alive longer). And they aren't even punishments necessarily, just ways of finding information.
  22. I'm so happy...lol today in chorus I actually managed to use my entire range...I can sing anywhere from bass to soprano one on a good day (I normally have no break in my voice) but often I lose the top half of my range... My scratch art of a retairus I'm making in art class is turning out very well, the hard part is over now I just gotta do the "floor" and the net, I'm really pleased since it was a rather ambitious first attempt at scratch art lol. I found a new project for shop class, I think it will turn out really cool, it's a feather forged from angle iron, when I get it done if it's good I'll post pictures. AND the wood shop teacher asked me to make some more hooks for him (he already bought some from me last year) because he wants more for his shop. YAY lol BTW my AP chem test is also done and over with (well this chapter anyway) and I don't know how good it is but at least its done.
